Changing Down

Hey all. Thanks for the replies. Some of you know what I am on about & some of you think I have mental health issues, lol. I have only had the new twin cam model a couple of weeks, but love ridin it. Thanks again for all the comments, even the negative ones were quite amusing :)

I don't think I blip the throttle on my gs. Maybe if ragging it silly, but not normally. As mentioned above, the big flywheel makes in unnecessary.

The negative comments are because, having a (superior) 1200GS, means that we have not all started on the heavy shit 80gs, then 100gs, then "Progressed" to the 1100 gs, before finally stopping at the 1150GS, therefore we are not "proper" GS riders/owners/enthusiasts. Even if you have a beard and stink of piss, but own a 1200, you are not a proper GS. Secretly, all the "Other" R****GS owners actually want a 1200.

This does not necessarily apply to the non boxer GS owners.

Hi
I do blip throttle on downshift,I have a 2010 twin cam but also have noticed that some times it wants to cut out when i blip throttle quickly, not on downshifts but at lights ready to race eveything off the line:augie, i think engine stroke gearbox seems smoother when blipping changing down just feels better to me.

I always blip. but then I learned to ride on a 350 Panther....Ask your (Grand) Dad...:rob

If you didn't blip, you launched yourself into your neighbour's allotment....:D

Still seems 'right'.....:)

Ah I get it know, thanks for the heads up :augie

I would imagine the habbit of blipping the throtle years ago was to have the revs at a suitable level for the lower gear you were going into and avaid the shock to the gearbox and to stop you having your balls ride up the tank due to engine braking.

I would hazard a guess that modern bikes dont need this at all, but it certainly avaiods some of the clonky changes....for which BuMW is famous.

When I was riding job fours, with nice throaty exhausts....the blip was purely for my ears and ego. Lets face it a big four being bliped is akin to putting socks in your underwear, just makes you feel bigger.

To match the revs accurately a blip is required because the engine has to turn faster when the gear is lower - simples. If you don't blip then the engine is forced to turn faster as you let the clutch out, why not have some mecahanical sympathy and give it a bit of help to reach the right revs?
