changing rear pads

been meaning to get to this for some time...How easy is it to change the rear brake pads, - done it loads of times on other bikes but just had a quick squint at the GS and caliper looks a bit different. What to undo first?

Any help gratefully received, including advice on OEM on non OEM pads if that is not a can of worms...

Dead easy, 15mins if your being picky

I've settled on using the BMW sintered off road pads, expensive but wear well

Steptoe of this parish does a good line in non-OEM pads.

Have a look at at http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/brakepads.html I've changed plenty of other pads on bikes and cars and the R1200GS rear is the easiest of the lot. About 20 minutes including putting away the tools and washing my hands afterwards. Just remember to push the pistons in very gently before fitting the new pads.

I'd be inclined to buy a can of brake cleaner spray, and give the pistons a good going over with a toothbrush............................ just make sure you put some toothpaste back on it, before your missus uses it again.

Copper grease the pad locating pin.
