Hi
everyone talks about changing the chip when an after market can is fitted. Where is the chip?, since I bought my bike s/h with a y piece and remus fitted it would be nice to know if it has been change...

Chip

I fitted the Laser Duotech Y-Piece and End Can. Then fitted the Chip from Boxer Design (Ordered Through Wunderlich).

The extra power and higher rev limit (8100) made for quite exciting riding. There was one problem though, under torque the engine pre-ignited, no matter what program I selected. (Also known as Pinging)

(The program is selected by inserting a "Jumper" wire in various positions where the Cat Code Plug is normally situated in the fuse box.) About 6 different programs can be selected depending on the bike set-up etc.

Just before I removed it, I filled the bike with 102 Octane Leaded fuel normally used for track racing.

The Pre-Ignition issues disappreared completely and the performance was really awesome. (I unfortuantely did not put it on a Dyno)

After that I went back to the standard Chip. No more pe-ignition.

I could possibly have played with the timing to also get rid of the pre-ignition, but with the extra power and higher rev limiter I simply ride the bike too hard and it will surely affect reliability in the long run.

But if you purely want performance it is definately worth it to install the chip. You may not even have the pre-ignition porblem in Europe/UK as the fuel is probably a better quality than down here in RSA.

Chip now sitting on the shelf in the garage, :nono glaring at me every time I park the bike for the eveining.

One more thing,

Just let the dealer check the CO level after fitting the Y-Piece and End Can to ensure it's not running too lean or rich.

MHO, the extra "breathing" provided by the new set-up gives more than enough extra performance.
