Hi Guys,
I have owned a GSXR 1000 K8 for about a year now and boy is it quick! Was bought on a whim as the BMW's at the time were a bit out of my price range, so I decided to test ride a 2015 TE model a few month ago and was pretty impressed even with the aching shoulders from the new position. The time has now come to sell the GSXR and make the move over, as the wife will no longer sit on the GSXR. My budget will be around £5000-£6000 and wondered if anyone could give advice as to which model would be best to buy. Have seen quite a lot of 2005 models for around £5000 mark which would leave me some money for initial service/tax/MOT/tyres, would love the 2014 model but for now funds limit my purchase! any advice/help would be greatfully received!

I'd say keep a keen eye on the market, you never know what's around. I happened upon a 2007 1200gs recently which had only covered 3000 miles from new, the guy had done one Europe trip on it, parked it in the garage and hardly used it again. I got it for £6250 which I was well pleased with. So you never know, there could be a belter just waiting for you.

Get a test ride as the 2013-2015 is significantly quicker and smoother than previous gen, imho. I am an Ex K8 rider....100mph in first! . Not sure if you would consider a pcp but there is a good deal on new right now.

Simon.

Thanks for the reply's guys, What year was the last 1150? Seen some nice 2007-2009 models in my price range. What sort of price are we looking for 1150 and how much different are they compared to 2015 model? That's the only one I have ridden!

Chalk and cheese mate, not that they aren't all great bikes. The 1150 is about 85bhp....handles brilliantly but ultimately an old chugga built to last with bags of personality. The 2015 is like a scalpel in comparison. You're going to have to ride a few.

The 1150's will seem very slow if you're used to the performance of a GSX-R 1000. You may even find an early 1200 slow (especially pre-2008 Model Update) as the GS LC you tested is much quicker.

I changed from a K1200S to a 2009 GS MU and found it lacking performance in comparison, especially two-up and fully loaded. The GS LC is the bike I wanted the earlier model to be :thumb2
