Thinking of getting into fitting my own tyres, I did try this last year, but gave up after not being able to seat the bead on the tyre that is on my 600, so my question is

Who fits there own tyres
How do you break the bead(i used my vice last time, but was still hard work)
Do you replace the valve
How many tyre levers do you use(I only have 2)
How do you hold the tyre without resting it on the discs
What Tyre inflator do you use(i have a industrial compressor)
Do you balance the tyre and if so how
how long does it generally take
pictures would be nice

the reason I want to change them myself, is that tyre prices seem to have risen sharply in the last 12 months and i currently need a new front for my R1150gs and a new rear for my Fazer 600, with the r1100rt needing new tyres within 2000 miles, and I have been quoted £210 for the R1100RT, whereas off ebay, i can have delivered a set for £125(not the same tyre, but a good make non the less), hence, buying some equipment would possibly recover in just 4 tyres, plus its such a hassle getting them changed, especially when needed for a long run

The other advantage is that when I go on runs, if I dont think that the tyres have enough tread, like going to France , i will replace the tyre even though it may have 1000+ miles left, just to save the worry, therefore I could then remount for local riding, rather than them being scrapped.

sorry if its in the wrong place, nothing seemed appropriate, please move if need be
