Sorry a little hard of thinking this eve
Had a little run today was almost home when I saw that the charge light was staying on untill 3000rpm this gradually increased untill it wasnt going out at all
. There is continuity across the slip rings on the rotor the brushes are good. I have tried a known good regulator (It was fine last time i used it
) When i removed the reg and connected D+ and DF together the charge light stayed on.
There is continuity to earth on the 3 phases when the diode board is connected.
Has anyone got any idea what my problem is
before whats left of my brain oozes out of my ears

there is continuity on the rotor but no resistance (is this my trouble).
