I have just fitted a Oddysey battery as the voltage was a bit low put it on charge with the BMW charger via the canbus socket after a couple of hours it shut off showing power supply problem.
Should i connect direct to the battery? I also have a Optimate 3 charger Advice welcome.
Thanks in advance

I've been using an Odyssey battery for years and charge it with an optimate via a permanently connected fly lead.
Never had any issues.

I use an Optimate, but have it connected directly to the battery....there can't be an issues if you connect that way....

You might consider getting a kit to connect the accessory socket direct to the battery (fused) so that a) charger will work and b) air compressor will run and not trip the canbus when the tyre pressure gets up a bit. You can keep the existing socket connected, leave it lying in the space under the tool tray, safe enough.

I have a bmw socket connected to the battery via a fuse block, the optimate is plugged and working as i type.
