I was reading the Jan 09 edition of the BMW club Journal and there is an article about charging through the aux socket for an F800ST. It says to connect and switch on charger and then turn on the ignition for 20 seconds then turn off and remove the key. This apparantly opens a "channel" to the battery and it won't be terminated by the canbus after 15 mins as is normal, so an Optimate can be left plugged in to do its business. This would save messing around with direct battery connections.

Anyone heard about this or tried it on anything other than an F800ST?

I 'spose the obvious thing is to go and try it.....if the light stays on, it works, if it doesn't........

Read something on the other UK site about some bikes you have to plug charger into the aux socket within 15 mins of the ignition being turned off. This is because the power gets cut to the socket after 15mins.
Don't know on what bikes but there you go.
