I off to help out with the European Enduro this weekend at Llanidloes in Mid-Wales. Charley Boorman, Nick Plumb and Simon Pavey are all entered.

Looks like Charlie’s getting some Dakar practise in. I know the Hafren forest well and am sure he’ll have a “challenging” time. Enduros can be a lot harder than the Dakar but the mileages are far less and it’s only for two days. It looks like Charley still hasn’t made it up with KTM, he’s on a GasGas.

Nick Plumb is number 353 on a KTM, Charley Boorman is number 433 on a GasGas and Si Pavey is number 434 on a GasGas.

Interesting that John Shirt @ GasGas seems to have extended the offer of a bike to only Charley and Simon - can we assume from this that Plumby's 100% definitely not riding for BM* this year?

Charlie Boorman did very well at the Hafren European Enduro round and actually scored a Championship point on Day 1.

This tree caught a few out, not just Charlie

It's a pity he was so knackered on day 2 that he dropped out about mid-way through the day but it was still a great achievemnt for his first proper enduro.

Si Pavey did well and scored 15 Championship points and Roger Dawson (No 435) kept Si honest and acted as his "water boy" as well as scoring 4 Championship points.

Daryl Bolter won the Junior class and increased his lead in the Championship.

and David Knight easily won the event outright finishing the second day whilst standing on his seat as he raced arount the final Special Test.

While I'm a big fan of anyone brave enough to tackle the Dakar, shouldn't we be concerned that Charlie was knackered and dropped out half way through day 2? Did you get the feeling he was taking this seriously? Don't mis-understand me, I want to see him doing well.

I had a chat with him and I believe he's taking it very serious but only just realising how tough it's going to be.

Spoke with "Gizz" who's off to Germany next week to start building the bikes for Charlie and Si and he's pretty confident that if they can get him through the big dunes he'll be OK.

Everyone was saying that Charlie has begun a serious "get fit" program and he has certainly lost quite a bit of weight since LWR.

This was his first proper enduro and it was probably a bit of a shock to find he had to ride terrain that is much tougher than most of the Dakar for 7 hrs each day. The Dakar mileages and times will of course be much greater but most of the terrain will be considerably easier.

I hope he does well.

Is there anywhere in the UK that rents enduro bikes? (kind of like the factories do for the ISDE)? I know its a long shot.

Thx.

Knighter is awesome..................the Rossi of the Enduro World currently

A Brit that wins everything at present.................so far out in front that they have to handicap him to slow him down.

He won the singles class @ Erzburg Mountain last month, whilst Sala won the twins on the KTM 950, narrowly beating the HP2

David Knight................he's da man
