I was at the London show today, went and listened to Charlie, Patsy and Nick Sanders being interviewed about their biking experiences in the last year.
Nick was enthusiatic about his lunitic round the world jaunts and falling asleep on a road in OZ doing 80 mph and waking up, leaning against a road train whilst still moving, did admit that it had occured to him that maybe 1150 miles a day
was probably not a good thing in 19 days none stop.
Patsy was just so chuffed she had finnally finnished a Dakar and could not of taken failure again. She admitted it was her last Dakar on a bike but would consider doing it in a truck if the offer came along. I have the upmost admiration for these riders
and with the sad loss of Andy Caldicott this year, I`m sure they`ll be a few more riders calling it a day. Patsy did mention how close most of the Brits helped each other this year and that a finnish was what she really wanted above all else.
Charlie was quite commical and was quite "F**k**G" honest in the fact he couldn`t believe how hard it was and that you couldn`t really prepare yourself for how hard the Dakar is. Fair play for his honesty, infact he said he "never wanted to F**K**G do it again" and couldn`t remember which parts were supposed to be fun
So I think its fair to say he definately wont be back in 2007.
With Nick Plumbs fantastic finnish
and decission not to return next year, does anyone know what Simon Pavey
has decided.
I think the video, Race to Dakar, will be a great tribute to our British riders and the incredible challenge they face each time they compete and will show us all how incredibly difficult it is to even reach the start, let alone the finnishe.
Well done you all
