Last year i was caught out by a roadside puncture, not a major one but enough to make me realise that i needed to start carrying some puncture repair kit on the bike.
Got me a cheap AA 12v compressor and then tried to get a cigarette lighter to bike 12v socket adaptor, Hein Gericke tell me thiers none in stock and Touratwat wanted £13 plus £4 postage, so after a bit of fishing around i found this item on ebay. Ordered and delivered in 48hrs and a good quality bit of kit. Just thought i'd share.

Unless you rewire your socket direct to the battery, it will trip out because the compressor will draw more than the permitted 5A.

That'll teach me !!

For once thought i'd got one up on this technical beast of a motorcycle !! I take it the rerouting of the socket is a simply job, does it have any canbus implications, can someone advise ??

Snip and insulate the canbus wires, solder new wires on with a 10A in-line waterproof fuse on the positive close to the battery. Job jobbed.

http://www.pixum.co.uk/slide/4734505 Hi have a look here, made this up lead up a couple of years ago... maplin sell all the bits you need... just plugs into the optimate flying lead... use it to charge my phone when I'm away camping on the bike...

That's fine provided that the Optimate lead will take the high current draw of the compressor. Battery chargers normally operate at 400-600mA, not 6-8A.

Heat from the cables might be enough!

Yeah - the "rally-prepped" Mini I bought some years ago had a single, red 14/0.30-gauge wire feeding two relays and four 100W Cibies. These would draw about 35A; the cable could carry about 8A - it was quite a good auxiliary heater before it caught fire.

Hi the Optimate flying lead has a 15amp in line fuse... I've used the lead I made up to charge my phone and to power a camping mattress pump plus I use it power a small tyre pump to top up my tyres... seem's to work ok for me...

Thats the way to do it!, same set up for me, allows battery to be looked after when required, phones charged without the ignition on and maintains the ability to have a canbus controlled outlet - mind you this is less necessary since wiring the Zumo to the headstock outlet:thumb
