I was drawn into an auction site selling New BMW Navigator V and one was won a few weeks ago, yippy said the Yorkshire man. When delivered it was brand new, complete and with instruction manual in Chinese!!!! Been from Yorkshire I was finding it hard going with the manual so down loaded an English version and got started finding my way around the Nav V.

First problem was the already installed Chinese maps, can be seen on device and Basecamp, no good in Britain and trips in Europe so went on Garmin web site, purchased latest European maps and down loaded them onto a new 32gb sd card I installed into the Nav V, easy so far.
Second problem was the existing software on the Nav V which is version 2.0 and believe the latest version is 3.20. I have tried to update using Garmin Express and Garmin web updater for a few days trying all I know and failed. After speaking with Garmin they say this device was made for the Chinese market and can not be updated to 3.20, flip and dash. Further more Garmin say do not delete the Chinese maps other wise the device may not work anymore! I can see the installed maps also when viewing contents of internal memory on my PC in the "System file".

So to summarise:

Problem one....Can Chinese maps be deleted without killing the Nav V?
Problem two....How can software be updated to 3.20?
Can anyone help with sensible advice? If not let this be a warning to anyone else. Roy http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/250503/ne_nau.gif

What Garmin said sounds reasonable. It's serial no will always dictate for update purposes that it's for the Chinese market.

At reast you won't get rost! :blast

Al :hide

Ha ha ... a true Yorkshireman just simply looks for value for money, not the necessarily the cheapest :blast

Buy cheap buy twice comes to mind :rob

Good luck Roymundo ;)

do you know anyone else with the V & ask them to back/up make a copy of all the system files etc & seeing if that works.

Hold on, Nav V is built for worldwide tripping, surely this is bollocks :nenau

Ok the update may be locked from Garmin, but up to date UK and Europe maps shouldn't be.

Does it have takeaways listed in the POIs ? :nenau

Settings - My Maps show CN Europe NT 2016.20 (down loaded onto sd card)which are ticked. China maps are listed but not ticked.
The device is working fine with maps, information and gets me from A to B. I know someone with a Nav V so will investigate in the system file.
Many thanks for your input and interest in takeaways, it locates them all except the Chinese takeaway top of our street. You maybe amused but I will be well prepared when riding in China. How far is it?

Doesn't the unit use a base layer map and the detail maps you download are just overlays ?

The device will have different software from the EU model & possibly a different size hard drive as well, like the USA model

As above post.
"Please note, these full-version maps do not contain premium content such as junction view or 3-D buildings and terrain. These features only are available on the preloaded maps within your device or through a specific update for the mapping region of your device"

Sorry to state the obvious, but why are you unwilling to accept the obviously expert comment from 'Garmin'?
On forums we always seem to question the manufacturers advice be it BMW, KTM, Garmin etc. especially if we are unhappy with the reply
