CNA v5 is 60.4 MB and a lot of people also load Metroguide Australia (48.0 MB) for its better rural coverage

Bit of luck, I purchased a new Streetpilot iii deluxe form Makro for £499 (£585 with VAT). Due to one of the batteries (duracells) leaking thsi casued the unit to furry up inside. Took it back to Makro for exchange but they didnt have any left so gave a full refund instead. Logged on tonight to find a cheap place to buy and couldnt resist upgarding to a new 2610 from extremesport, the difference to change was only £180. Result thanks guys.
Can anyone tell me if it fits on all the same attachments as my Streetpilot iii. ie does it have the same power lead and speaker lead and use the touratech bracket?

I stand to be corrected but the only common hardware item was the autocom adapter and the fuse in the garmin power lead.

COSTCO has still got stocks of the Streetpilot III deluxe at £552 inc VAT. It comes with the European map base and when you register Garmin advise that your software has been updated and send the very latest maps which only came out last month.
I'm happy with th button version rather than the 2610 touch screen as I can press buttons with my gloves on.
The software is fantastic. The 128mb chip will hold the whole of the UK [minus a few areas] at house number level. The speed at which it re-calculates when you go off route is impressive giving a really helpful tool to wander with.
Recommended.

Rollo, if you haven't tried a 2610 I would suggest that you do? Yes you can use it with gloves on, and who's saying its easy to hit the + or - easily on the SP3? As for speed of recalculation or map drawing, don't even bother going there.
This is of course all relative but if you can afford the SP3 seriously have a look at the 26xx. Strange how it's a similar discussion to last years SP3 v Garmin V.

I must admit I'm tempted to upgrade already, although I'm very happy with my SP111. If the 2610 had been available at £755 when I bought the SP111, I think I know which one I would have bought.

Pondering on GPS after a lengthy journey I would rather have undertaken on the m/c except for the constant map folding necessary if on all back roads. Anyone willing to let me talk to them on a numpty v knowledable one basis so I can figure out if GPS is way to go ? Alternatively, are any lof my fellow NE GSers experts in said field ? Could discuss at next meeting ? And finally, like Matron, if any of yous guys is upgrading and offloading 'last years model' (GPS that is) I'd be interested...potentially...Cheers

I use it on the bike & in the car, and think it's great. Even SWMBO approves! We travel to dog shows up & down the length of the country every weekend, and it's invaluable for finding Sports Centres etc. in towns you've never never been to before. You're welcome to pop over & see how it works anytime.
I'm also being tempted to upgrade again, but don't tell SWMBO

I might take you up on that Charles, I like me maps, but long distance on backroads it gets hard, and GPS steps in (?). I guess there is the dual use with the car which could offset cost, which might be handy. Lets keep in touch, I'll PM you in near future !

Interesting conversation.
The SP III is a darn good GPS, and now that 256 meg memory cards are out, it has quite a bit of life left in it.
Here's my personal evaluation of the difference between the units:
SP 2610 is:
- faster at recalculations
- able to hold more maps (greater than 256 megs if you have a larger chip - up to 2 gigs)
- able to do a few more software tricks (but nothing you would want to die for).
SP III is:
- a very capable GPSR that uses exactly the same basic programming as the SP 2610, it just has a slower processor so it takes a bit longer to do recalculations.
- limited to 256 megs of map storage, enough for the whole UK, I think, but you will need to be judicious about loading maps for trips off your island.
- controlled by buttons, rather than a touch screen. Personally, I kind of prefer buttons. But you can stick the 2610 remote control on your clutch reservior with Velcro if you want, and as long as it is not raining, you get your buttons back.
There is nothing wrong with the SP III. It's kind of like comparing a new BMW moto with the previous design of the same moto. Both are fine motos, it's just that the new one does things a little better than the old one.

danmark price?
There is one thing that I can not understand by Sportextreme and that is the different in price/country.
The price in Danmark is a lot higher than in the euro zone and the UK.
Price for the 2610 in this shop:
in danisch crown :
13.494 DKK(danisch crown) = 1813,00 euro = £1219,00
in euro:
1176,00 euro = 8.752DKK= £790
in GBP:
£755 = 1123,00 euro = 8361,00DKK

I've ordered one yesterday, and it's been despatched by UPS today. The cost to me was 1147 Euros, including VAT. At the moment that should work out at around the £760 mark. I too noted the different prices for different Euro zone countries, but I've no idea why. All I know is it's £200 cheaper than anywhere else in the UK

The Danish price is probably a tax vat thing ? You don't even want to know the cost of a s/h m/c there. Me bro's CBR1000, from memory, was bout 50% of a brand spanker adventurer with the taxes, and it's years old ! Still his house was bout £45,000

Asking no questions about the price. They may have fallen off the back of lorry, but get 'em while they're hot. Good find, Darkhorse.
Took me a day and a half to fit the damn thing tho:
1. Several hours wiring the bare wire power lead into the back of the auxiliary power socket. No soldering iron you see, so mostly duct tape.
2. Ram mount from GPScity.com came without nuts - had to buy them. Garmin bracket screws were too long - had to buy shorter ones plus adjustable spanner to tighten them.
3. Managed to short out and blow the 1A fuse in the power lead. Didn't realise the auxiliary power socket is NOT switched on/off with the ignition, but is always on. Had to go to specialist hi-fi shop to get a new one, cos it's fancy. Got a spare to carry in the toolbox.
All worth it in the end. Now I'm going to get another power lead and mount so I can use it on my scooter...
