Wanted Cheap old estate

Hi all,

My brother is looking to do a couple of months road tripping around Europe. After a reliable enough estate, ideally a diesel with cruise control. He's got a preference for 1.9 VAG manual but open to options. Tatty is fine as long as it works! Budget of up to £2k but looking to spend as little as possible...

Anybody have anything or spotted something that hopefully won't leave him stranded on a Spanish motorway?

My Son in law has a very nice 2008 Focus titanium estate for £1600 here in Kent. It's on 104k miles but very well kept indeed. It's a Petrol though not a diesel. He's owned it maybe 8 or 10 years I think just replaced it with a Ceed estate.
