Cheapest Castrol Power1 10w-50 ?

Whatever grade of oil you decide to use

I ain't getting involved :augie

I buy my oil from this company. good deals , quick delivery , no problems

http://www.opieoils.co.uk

You need to register but its worth it IMHO

Just got 5 x 1ltr for £25 delivered and all in 1ltr bottles. 4 for the change, 1 for top ups ...simples

Which oil did you go for on this site for £25 ?

A 20w-50 and not a 10w-50..........I know I'm going to regret asking this.........but......wont BMW potentially complain (around warranty) if I'm not using the same spec of oil they are recommending/ordering us to use ?

Sorry M8, I'm not getting involved in this debate. I believe this oil is absolutely fine for my bike so thats what I'm using

My bikes out of warranty anyway :augie

They specify more than one oil - I hope the link works, but if not look at the BMW GB Motorrad site, & look at maintenance > Oil

I am sticking with the Actevo 20W-50, you may choose to do otherwise

Why the oil ? That's what BMW are telling me to put in it. NO - I wouldnt jump off the building just cos someone told me to.....YES I understand that the spec of the oil is not necessarily what the engine absolutely needs but if I'm topping oil up from a bike serviced at a BMW dealer, then it makes sense (to me at least) to top it up with what its been filled with.

...:)

Just picked my GSA up from Vines. 6K mile service carried out and they too have said BMW now recommend using FS oil. So, the spare 4L of the original oil i just found in the garage is now, er, SPARE:blast Noticed the new FS was £15.33 a litre. Bought some for topping up, although I am hoping it will use less. Actually how much should it use?:hide :D

What BMW say, as per their own website, is they recommend two oils; as they put it

BMW Recommended
Ultimate Performance - Synthetic
Trusted Protection - Actevo 20W-50.

Personally, I am quite happy with the Actevo & will continue to use it.

Interesting you post that. The guy in Vines suggested if I need to top up I can mix Actevo with the FS:eek: I always thought FS was never to be mixed. :nenau

Does nobody read through these threads £15.33 a L my :blast

Flipper_Man, If you're doing the mileage, changing/topping up, I would check out the P&P it would still be a big saving.

Best regards Stretch:)

Heres a question then. At 6k and using Fully synthetic....how will the bearings hold up? Isnt that too little milliage for fully synthetic? Maybe I am being paranoid. I dont like the idea of BMW changing the oil choice. Why would they do this? Actually thats two questions:rolleyes: I used FS in the R1 & the Busa and both did 10k when I sold them and they were ok. They were ridden very hard though and revved like a box of revving things. Maybe I just answered my question:blast Any thoughts? Sensible or otherwise?:augie

At the sort of mileage most motorcycles achieve, it doesn't matter; does any amateur have the scientific expertise & knowledge to tell the difference ?

Use what you're comfortable with - it really doesn't matter to anyone but you.

my10-50 litre was very cheap.
Had just spent a few quid having first service done and head covers fitted. As I was leaving I spotted the oil on a stand and said - I'd better get some of that. Service manager - there you are mate, we'll sort it out next time.

That's how to do customer service - am I loyal customer ?- you bet.
