OIL !!!!!

God knows the risk I'm taking with this post...........retardant clothing ready...

Where's the cheapest (sensible answers please) place to buy Castrol Power1 Racing 4T 10w-50 oil ?

Our bikes go through the stuff like mad (to varying degrees) so surely everyone will want to know where the cheapest place to buy it ?

Can't we keep a post like this alive with current prices ?

.......pin pulled........retiring behind blast screen.....clicking 'submit new thread'.....tic tic tic

Although not castrol, hein gericke do reasonable priced 10-50 fully synth.

thin oil

Tis the trouble of owning an 2010 bike you have to have exspensive thin long life oil but still pay a fortune for it every 6000 miles!!! oh dear:comfort :thumb2

Good God Man! Do you really know what you have done?
This thread will live with you for ever, like the proverbial millstone it will drag you down to Dantes Inferno!

Use Q8 SBK Racing,available in 25L 4L and 1 L packs

Spec. 10W - 50 API SL Jaso MA Fully Synthetic.

Rizla Suzuki Racing use it
Airwaves Ducati use it.
Stretch has used it in his gixxer thou and 2 Hayabusa's since 2003.

I buy in 25L, dont know the current pack price as I've had it over a year.
However, will soon start to get through it now the Oil Guzzler has arrived

Best regards Stretch:D

wht would you use an oil, that is clearly far to over the top for our tractor engines?

we dont need half the shit thats in that oil because we dont share the oil for the clutch

has someone somewhere told you these are race bikes and that they are regular winners in moto gp or something?

oil thread, from mr castrol

(J) Am I right in thinking that, as the good old BMW flat twin is not a particularly high revving engine (unlike say a Honda 600R, going up to perhaps 17,000 RPM) there is no great need or advantage in using anything better than decent semi-synthetic oil, once the engine is run in. BMW seem to recommend mineral oil for at least the basic running in period 600-1000 miles and, apparently, up to about the next six thousand miles (some dealers say 10,000). I'd say that is a good rule of thumb - BMW engines tend to take a long time to run in ( 10K ) and if not done properly can tend to burn oil later on - BMW specify a basic mineral, although many dealers use a semi synthetic as a service grade

who recommends it? bmw?

Moderator, bring on the Revolver:D

Shine when I had a H-D they told me put in H-D mineral, well it got Q8 SBK,
now all of a sudden they have their own Syn 3, well I never.

Back in 73 when I bought my new Mk1 850 Commando they said Stretch, you have to use Gulf oil in that, yes mister whada you think, ha!

Best regards, save it for the birds, Stretch.:beerjug:

ha ha, yeah and back then petrol was cheap, bikes were for getting you places, and you didnt care what you wore or rode, just as long as it was moving

save it for the pub

50p says this is your first bmw.

Ooh - I can't let that one slide..........I'm on my 5th BMW bike and all the previous have done at least 35k miles (apart from the K1200S that exploded at around 20k).....add the 5 years consulting to BMW in Bracknell at BMW(UK)........I reckon that puts me closer to the 'experienced BMW owner' than you suggest ;)

Why the oil ? That's what BMW are telling me to put in it. NO - I wouldnt jump off the building just cos someone told me to.....YES I understand that the spec of the oil is not necessarily what the engine absolutely needs but if I'm topping oil up from a bike serviced at a BMW dealer, then it makes sense (to me at least) to top it up with what its been filled with.

...first BMW indeed......I havent even got to the number of cars yet.........or the fact I was born and grew up on the 'correct' side of the 'hills' in Preston....

:)

wasnt aimed at you dude

Why hasn't anyone actually answered your question?.........

£15, I asked the DEALER :comfort :ymca

According to the BMW/Castrol datasheet you now get a choice of oil to use.
20/50 is what goes in the bike or if you want to pay more then you can use 10/60 full synthetic
