Odd one this:rolleyes:

The speedo has just broken in my old van, now a speedo head would probably be equal to the vans worth, so I was wondering if i could get a cheap GPS which gives a MPH reading.

Whats the cheapest that will do the job???

Its only for a couple of months then we will pex it for a newy:nenau

May be not what your looking for :nenau I've got a Street pilot 3 it's not new looking and has been well used, but it's complete, with box and cds and power leads PC cables etc.
I can't fnd anything to give me a price guide so open to an offer.

How about one of those little electronic bicycle speedos from Halfords? You just need to find a fixed point close to the wheel to mount the sensor. The instructions will tell you how to program in the wheel diameter.

Thanks for the offer, but i think it will be a waste of good kit for what i want, i'm sure there will be somebody who will want to give you cash for that, to use on a bike:nenau

Unless of course you want next to nothing for it:D

A push bike one is probably the cheapest.
I too had this problem years ago on my old mini. I understood that it was a legal requirement to have a means of measuring the vehicles speeds, but I did have a rev counter.
I covered the dead Speedo with making tape an then, using a biro, created a little lookup table to Xref the revs in each gear to speed.
I never got stopped to find out if it was legal

GPSW are/were doing Garmin i3s for £80. They do have a small speed readout though this is only visible (ISTR) when not in navigate mode.

I've got one of these that you can borrow Shep. If you want it let me know. I can bring it on the SUYB tour and show you how it works :thumb2

i use a bicycle speedo on my R100gs.
checked it against a GPS and the BWM speedo.

the damn thing is more accurate than BWMs! and if i bothered me arse to calibrate it _precisely_ it would be nigh on as good as the GPS:thumb

oh - easy to fit too. (well, on a motorcycle it is:rolleyes: ).

wish i knew more about GPSs and their cost/value/usefulness - coz there are times i just know i'd make good use of one.
e.g;*cue music*.... 'Lost In France'.... and looking for a hotel!:D
