Every time a look at the diode board mounting rubbers on a r100 they are fecked :blast
If they all fail the diode board can drop and touch the cover...The main feed to the board comes from the starter motor and is not fused
This is a real fire hazzard so it pays to check them from time to time....
Better still replace them with some solid mounts and never have the problem again...This is what i do now
Here are some i made earlier in the pic and the fecked rubber ones too

Hi Gary,

The steel mounts looks very well made but won't they transfer all vibrations directly to the diode board and maybe cause damage to it?

Dan

The vast majority of production models have the diode board mounted solidly.

Rubber mounts are used for R90S, 1000cc and most monolevers.
I suspect it was because of increased vibration from the larger capacities.
I think retro-fitting to solid mounting, with spacers like those pictured, is a good idea. I think the vibration problem is probably not an issue, at least not significantly worse on the larger capacity machines

Bmw as far as i can tell went to the rubber mounts
because they thought vibration was causing the boards
to fail....But it turned out to be that they had changed the board manufacture and the new boards did not have the
diode wire end bent over and soldered they were just soldered :blast
There are 2 main problems with the rubber mounts
1 you get a crap earth
2 they don't conduct the heat away from the board
The rubbers nearly always fail on the board end and you can very often see the damage is caused by heat

I have done this conversion a few times now and had no problems afterwards

Thanks for the background info :clap

I will have to check what type of mounts are on my G/S.
