or, A Funny thing happened to me on tour recently.

Over the last long weekend I took some biker mates from my club on a tour of the Lakes and Dales.

The day after our last hotel stay, somebody in the club got an email to say that Housekeeping had found evidence of drug use in one of the drawers in my room (some small plastic bags with the remnants of dubious substances). They backed this up with a photo and consequently I was banned from future bookings with the hotel.

Fortunately for me, I hadn't travelled home straightaway as I'd been to visit my sister and so I was able to return to the hotel and protest my innocence.

The yoof at the desk started blethering on about involving the police and so I said I would be glad if he would since any subsequent fingerprinting would only prove my innocence. He backed down.

Then I got lucky because it turned out that the deputy manager who was on duty is a biker too, and she realised that when we stay in a hotel for only one night, we don't tend to use the room storage.

We had a pleasant chat and she both apologised and lifted the ban. She also apologised for sending an email to a random club member, rather than directly to me who had been arranging all the bookings (which is why I'm not naming the establishment).

So next time you check-in to a hotel for just one night, make sure there's nothing incriminating been left in the furniture!!

My wife is an ex Hotel Manager and always checks EVERYTHING when we stay in a room. Dirty knickers are the only thing we've found, and a call was made to have them removed, 😉
