Checking a Mac Book Pro for "Integrety"

Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Over at a m8 house and he is unhappy with the Mac Book pro I got him to buy a while back. What software checks can he use to check his "Pro" is working properly OSX Yosemite

run disk utility, click Mac HD verify permissions then repair permissions.

After that, check out the apple forum for further 'controls' about whatever he is unhappy about.
 
If its a 2011 model use the apple website serial number checker to see if it is one of the ones that had problems with the graphics processor. What are the symptoms of 'not working properly'
 
If it's running Yosemite then it'll need 4gb of RAM as a minimum.
My trusty 2009 unibody Macbook was really slow (2gb RAM) so I upgraded and it's transformed it!
