Checking Tyre Pressures

Buy one of these and stick it in the pocket of your jacket. That way, you can check your pressure with whatever gauge you want. The previous owner of my GS put angled valves on the wheels to solve this problem.

A good suggestion thanks - I've used in the past but you have to be careful not to lose some pressure whilst screwing on and off. I fancy the more permanent right angled valves and thought to have them fitted when I next have some tyres - 1000 miles or so. I'm not sure of the permanent right angled valves are compatible with pressure sensors?

Having bought the TPM option I'm happy that the bike will let me know is all is not well with the wheels.

The onboard TPM are only good for telling you about a major loss of pressure. Their inaccuracy combined with their stupid reference temperature at 20 degree adjustment thing mean they don't warn you of any other problems. I had a major problem last year with tyres overheating and getting to too high a pressure (3/3.5 bar), the bike was happily telling me everything was fine so I never questioned it until I stuck a pressure gauge on them. Speaking to various BMW people they basically confirmed this, still to this day nobody has explained this temperature compensation thing.
