Called in Halliwell Jones Chester today just for a mooch. Was amazed A by the number of immaculate pre owned bikes in stock and B by the low mileages. There were two R9T 12 or whatever they are called 400/600 miles each, they looked minty. Then I looked along the rear of the bikes and they virtually all had sequential regs all 73. Have they hoovered up some BMW head office models.

My F700 is an ex staffer but that was two years old and 10,000 miles these are all under 1000 miles. So either demo or courtesy bikes.

So if anyone is looking for a deal on some low mileage bikes maybe give them a call. There were lots of visual deals eg £800/ £1200 off certain models. The electric scoots were heavily discounted.

Based on popping in throughout the year I recon their stockholding is up a good 40% just as Joe public hangs up him boots and retires to his car for winter

I guess they stopped shipping out unwanted part ex bikes to Completely once they weren't getting paid, and won't accept the low prices offered by WBAB/Superbike Factory. A lot of dealers might be in the same position.

They do seem to be on a roll there. I noticed they have been recruiting more sales staff recently and have added a couple more desks for them. Still never managed to buy a bike from them though, despite trying twice since they opened. They just never got back to me.

The lady from Woods ( Anna I beleive) of Abergele and who started up Triumph Chester popped up there during the summer in sales. Im sure she said she was at Woods 20 yrs. Of course our member here Ted ( Motorevive) is on the spanners there too.

I know its wrong but Iove watching the Turkey Teeth couples looking at the BMW cars. You can pay anything from £40- £180k for the cars in the showroom.

Off topic but don't get me started on turkey teeth , blown up botox lips and fuzzy felt eye brows and as for the fat backside brigade BBL,
don't these people realise how stupid they look !
Back on topic I was in pidcocks the other week and they're show room was ramed with used bike as well so much so you had a job to move around the showroom

Chester’s stock (it seems) is group pcp stock ie BMW group staff bikes etc as I was told when in there?

I’ve had five cars from them over the last 13 years. It’s just a pity they do not seem bothered to sell me a bike. Williams in Manchester have benefited.

I was in there last weekend - followed a family in who were there to look at cars, as they walked past the bikes the wife came to a sudden stop and said in a loud angry voice "IS THIS WHAT YOU PAID FOR YOUR BIKE ?"

At that point I made myself scarce and went to the secondhand bikes with a wry smile on my dial.

Hope it wasnt anyone on here !

That reminds of that addage.....I hope that when I die, my wife doesn't flog my bikes and gear for what I told her I paid for 'em.....

When I enquired about a bike and part ex value of mine they looked on a screen and gave me a price not getting off his chair to look at my bike . Glad our esteemed member is there.

I had my GSA in for warranty work this week, and noticed they are selling a number of helmets, jackets, gloves, etc at cost price in the service reception area. if you are interested, Sarah is the person to speak to.

Yesterday I called Halliwell Jones Chester to enquire about the 1250 ADV they are advertising on Autotrader. Brand new and a good spec.
Spoke with Anna, explained that I was interested in the 1250 advertised on Autotrader, she wasn't sure which bike I was talking about so I said it Blue with panniers. She put me on hold for a minute or two whilst she made some enquiries. Came back to me and said she could find it at first then laughed and said "it's right in front of me".
I told her I would like a trade in price for my triple black TU. She said she would speak to her manager and get back to me. Nearly and hour later she calls me back and asked if I could email pictures of my bike to her, 15 minutes (11.10am) later 15 close up pictures sent. She was then going to speak with her manager again.

Roll on to 1600 and not had a reply from Halliwell Jones Chester. So I give them a call no answer from Anna's number so I try the main number. This time it gets answered and when I ask for Anna I get told she not in this weekend. Oh I said, that is strange because I spoke with here earlier in the day.
The reply was a stuttered oh yes she just popped in to do a hand over, oh right well I have been waiting for her to get back to me and not heard anything. I can help you....No i don't think so if no one can be bothered to reply to me or message me then I would rather not deal with you. Business must be so good,. The guy apologises and says let me see if I can help send me the photo's because I can't access her emails I said thanks but no thanks, if this is the type of service you offer then I'll take my business else where. I thanked him and hung up.

Pissed off to say the least so typed a short email to Anna CC the sales manager in ( as she had supposedly spoken to him about it)expressing my dissatisfaction and I wouldn't deal with them.
Don't worry I know that they won't miss a meal if I don't part with my cash and buy a bike from them, but I won't support a company with shit service like that.

Roll on to 7.00pm I get an email from the GM very apologetic and seeing he wasn't working this weekend wasn't fully aware of what happened and will speak with Anna on Monday and would like me to give them a second chance. Turns out the guy I spoke with earlier was the retail manager.

So all bullshit from Anna about talking to her boss he wasn't there.

Will I give them a second chance... Not sure but will speak with the GM on Monday..... Looks like this turned in to a bit of a rant....

As far as their sales department go, I find them on par with the old Chester Motorrad, who were based in Ellesmere Port. Diabolically hopeless at selling bikes.
I have been buying new BMW bikes since 2012, and every one has come from Williams in Manchester, even though I have to pass Chester to get to them. It’s not even a fact that Williams have given me a better deal, it’s just the two Chester dealers have shown no interest in selling me a bike, and could not be bothered to get back not me on several occasions.
However, I do find their after sales ok, so use them for servicing, warranty and recall work.

This is a shame, as I have bought a number of BMW and Mini cars from them. You would think the number of main bike dealerships going bust, they would pull their finger out of their arse and up their sales game.

Got my GS from Chester in 2020.

They were helpful and well behaved. I had some teething issues that the Arden knobheads in Tunbridge Wells couldn’t be arsed to sort out, but Chester did.

I’d have preferred they had the bike back, but you can’t have everything.

I bought my r1250gsa triple black from them last year and should have walked away!

I would never and nor would I recommend anyone buying from Halliwell Jones in Chester.

The sales staff give the impression, they be bothered and they have better things to do.

I sought my new bike through auto-trader and initially the response was prompt.

After I agreed to buy the bike with a deposit, they couldn't give a @#%£.
No one returns calls and charged £300 for gardx which i did not ask for.
The day of collection arrived and I'm excited to pick up my first bmw.
Told someone would pick me up from railway station and guess what, nobody there!
The reception from salesman dave was diabolical and I should have walked away.
It's as if I I had stepped in something on the way into dealership.

I can only give my opinion, but warn other people to think twice.

Did they get the 2nd chance ?

They certainly do have a lot of stock. But they are a very large company. I think I bought a five series from a HJ jones place 20 years ago.

A few of my club bought bikes from there last year. They're no better or worse than any dealer. They give you crap PX prices and try and stiff you on your replacement. But we all know that's the game. I'll probably give them a chance when the PCP is up on mine next year. Williams were no better for me.

The problem with that place is the service department. I wouldn't trust them to service my lawnmower.

Three of the guys in our club had their bikes worked on at Halliwell Jones and had SERIOUS problems. Calliper bolts were left lose. Dripping sump bolts. Under or overfilled oil. Luckily we have an Ex-police mechanic in our group who check them over when we visit for a brew.. I won't be using them for any service work.

And god forbid you ever have a technical problem. I don't think anyone there has any real experience. Terrifying really.

I know they have always had an awful reputation in the workshop. Teething problems you can almost forgive. I heard that was sorted out. But obviously not. If you ever see the mechanics, they look 12 years old. Sucking on Vaporisers and drinking Red bull.
