Well after a bit of research i have caught up a bit....
Looks like the Chigee AIO-6 is the one to go for BUT I do have some questions
1. Can I use the device as a Navigation device - i.e. can I upload GPX files to it or routes from MRA?
2. The AIO 6 4G is about to be launched but not sure really what the big deal is with the 4G option.
If 1. works then i am tempted to go for the AIO6 BUT I need the device primarily as a navigation device.
Yes you can, but It will only mirror your phone in Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Mode, like it would in your car on the screen of your infotainment system. It isn’t a GPS device in its own right like TomTom or Garmin XT/XT2 for example. It does rely on your phone to be connected (wirelessly) to it.
I personally haven’t looked into 4G device. I believe that the unit does become a tracking device for you bike. I might be wrong.
Some would say what is the point in having one of these units then?
Well unlike Garmin, you have a choice of mapping software to use that you like and prefer. Such as MRA. Kurviger, Scenic, Calimoto, Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze and probably more.
You also get your music apps on the screen of the device if that’s your thing whilst riding.
There is also a phone and messaging options displayed in same way as they would appear on your phone.
Yes it does only mirror your phone and some would argue with a remarks, such as “what is wrong with keeping a phone clamped to the handlebars of your bike if it does essentially do same thing?” Yes that correct, but I sooner have a £400 CHIGEE on the bike and my £1200 phone firmly in the pocket of my jacket. Not least should the worst happen, it won’t be 30m down the road in a ditch whilst I am broken to bits laying in a ditch on the other side of the road…
