I've just ordered risers from China, looks identical to wunderlich but a third of the price. I've had a Chinese copy of the big Agnes flycreek tent for the last two years, can't fault it, £70 instead of £370.

Probably all out of the same factory. Some out if the front door some out of the back.

Tough one this, isn't it. Machineart Moto do the initial design, then the R&D to perfect it, they test it, then build it in the best material for the job - a bloke from China then buys one, copies it and knocks it out in a sweat shop at a knock down price raking in the profit.

Meanwhile, MM lose sales, go out of business and can we rely on the bloke from China when the next GS comes out? It might be ok, after all they already make some really classy motorcycles(!)... or it might not.

I guess I can be self righteous here 'cos I've already got a genuine MM Avant, Mudsling and X-Heads, but I can certainly see the temptation. Like I said, it's a tough one.

or maybe MM could sell it cheaper and sell more make more profit win win but not the case if they wanna have our trousers down knowing the internet has opened the door to world trading then unfortunately its a sad fact but a very real one

I had those on my last machines and being silly left them on. I will next time check out whether there are cheaper makes well before I get caught up in exorbitant costs.

I must admit I got a Chinese copy mud slinger for £32 shipped from the Uk, that was a saving of over £100 on the original and yes perhaps the copy is not 100% perfect but it's not far off,

must say I agree with fujack on this

Let's put this in perspective - if you designed something novel and spent loads of your own money developing the design and then even more producing it, how would you feel if someone stole your patented design and then put you out of business ? Some people seem to expect MAM to do all the hard work and then trade at a loss so they can have a product on the cheap.

Yes but does it really cost £130 to design and manufacture a piece of plastic for the rear shock guard?

We pay over the odds for most motorcycle accessories.
