'We haven't got anything for supper - and it's a lovely evening - fancy picking up a Chinese via a quick spin on the bike? ... Please ..!!'

(Been on one since seven this morning ..) 'Oooo FFS, Yeah come on then ... Hop on ... ':blast

And so we head for the Chinese take away ... errrrr the long way round :D

And she's right, even after a long day (and another tomorrow ... and Sunday .. !) Yer can't beat a slow old pootle with the sun setting over golden fields of wheat and barley.

We wind our way on bits of tarmac, bits of byway and sort of do a circular route heading for the city centre.

Ahhhhh ... Now where's the nutty GSer ???? Now you were asking about Annake 3's off road, and I remember saying something about they're all much of a muchness but none of them like soft mud ...

I thought of you :D

It's that sort of stuff that'll chuck you off yer road tyres ... :thumb

We push on and the theme of B road / by-way continues. Rabbits and squirrels run amock, and Eric Clapton plays a slow lament as the sun gets lower.

We thread our way nice and slowly through the ruts :D No heroics, no standing up, just pick our line, keep looking up and trickle along in second and not much more than about 20mph :thumb

After a bit more tarmac, I spot this on the side of the road ..

Feck me - It doesn't look like anybody has been down here in years :nenau

'Shall we give it a go?' (a ridiculous question - I may as well ask 'would you like some money to buy a new handbag and maybe some shoes..?')

We commit ourselves - and it really is that; we sure as hell aint gonna turn around any time soon :D

It gets even more overgrown, I haven't got a feckin clue what I'm riding over - there could be a bloody great log across the trail for all I know ..

... But the tyres feel ok, it feels pretty dry underneath despite the recent thunder storms that Robin got his knickers in a twist over and there's only one way to go ..

The dense and overgrown hedge line eventually breaks. feck knows where we are - in the middle of a field somewhere :nenau

We eventually spit ourselves out, phone the Chineese and make our order and promise to be there in fifteen minutes.

A trundle around the ring road, and pinch myself for taking things for granted. This is on my doorstep and some days I don't even give it a second glance

'Bell Harry' (It's proper name) has a human mouse wheel still in it, from when it was built in the Fifteenth Century. I'm very privileged to have been up there - walking among the roof joists and on the top of the huge domed ceilings is just amazing. The mouse wheel was used to 'walk' stone up on a rope. They just built around it and it still stands today. To get to the top, you have to walk up a tiny (like really tiny) spiral staircase that's built into one of the corner 'pillars' that you can see. It's just about shoulder width. Really amazing :thumb

We slink through some of the university grounds,

... and make our final few miles on the North downs.

This little rise usually sees a minger hoisted to the telegrapoh pole :D but in bimble mode, it's good night downs, Hello Ruben, and thank you Helga

Yum ...

Food ... :nenau ... Gin ... :nenau ... Food ... :nenau .. Gin ... :nenau

Nice one Giles.:thumb Only you could turn picking up a Chinese takeaway into a proper adventure.:D:beerjug:

Ha .... good one :thumb

If there's an easy way of doing things .... and a hard way of doing things ...

... why do we always pick the bloody hard way :blast

:beerjug:

Bloody hell bet she's scratched to buggery now going down those tracks

hope you got a 'reach around' on the way for your trouble... :)

Have you posted on the wrong thread :nenau

JB and Micky's report is a click below (and I think JB got sweet and sour balls for his efforts too ... ) :D
