Chocolate bike

What never ceases to amaze me, is how folks think it's a 'result' when BMW decide to put a new engine in their 6k ml bike.

They're saying that BMW stands by their warranty, and are apparently willing to replace the whole motor for something as non-functional as minor corrosion in some cases. FWIW, Ducati warranty was worthless when I complained about my engine paint peeling off in large chunks on a bike barely over a year old.

Count me among the thousands of purchasers who have had zero problems after 3 years. Bike runs like a top and is so much fun to ride. Oh, wait, it did have one problem, the windshield developed small cracks around the mount holes and was replaced under warranty with a new shield and new mounts to prevent the issue going forward. I guess its a POS after all.

Yes, a few people have had bad experiences, but its not ubiquitous, not even close.

Are Honda replacing all the rusting spokes on 200mile ATs ;)

No idea, but I've about 4500 miles done now and still nice and shiny. Still, a bit of a difference with a manky set of spokes and a new engine/drive shaft etc etc......:augie

But then, some say it's all down to how you look after it....;)

Anyone can wander into a dealer and take pictures :augie

Or was that the day you bought it?;)

I have had 4 1200GSes and have done about 1,000 miles per month since 2005 - there isn't another bike that gets even close to the all round capability go the GS - all other bikes miss the sweet spot design compromise that the GS has found. I have ridden the AT and its an ok bike for road use but nothing more than that - it is designed with a more off-road bias which is great but it sacrifices all round usability compared to the GS.

Out of interest, how often & how are you cleaning the bike? Do you use ACF50?
Never used AC50 as don't need to ride in winter , the bike gets hand washed after every ride, no jet wash.

The bike is mint and is a fantastic bike to ride , maybe god just don't like me ( wa\znker)

True but due to no bike , BMW gave me a loan bike (2016 plate R1200 GS TE ) 364 miles on the clock and said use this for you holiday in spain for two weeks.
I did , thrashed the shit out of it and it was perfect , great bike , now I'm waiting for my new replacement bike R1200 GS Triple black.
So the warentee given is pretty dam good as far as I'm concerned. Fair play BMW carry on , I know I'm covered no matter what...the original bike was a TE
Had a Ducati once .....no customer service there , only excuses.
And don't mention Yamaha or Honda I rather boil my balls on the stove ....... more fun

Glad you're sticking with the GS, look at it this way, you may have had your share of woes and hopefully in the future all will be plain sailing.
I've bought ten or so new BMW's over the last twenty or so years, guess I've been lucky, one or two very minor issues which have all been sorted to my satisfaction.
Enjoy your new ride when she arrives.

cheers
tony

Tony thanks for the reply , I love my BMW and have found the best bike for me , had so many others but boring ......
Flat twin for me .... as they say only real men ride twins , and the problems add to the fun

"All these horror stories"?

You stick to believing that EVERY modern GS is a bag of shite, and the tens of thousands of owners with NO issues will carry on sleeping at night.;)
Couldn't agree more, some people have problems but thousands don't !
By the way, given all the blathering about how 1150's are the best bike ever made I took my mates 1150 out for the day. Now I know this may be heresy but I thought it was slow, uncomfortable and the handling was ok but not a patch on an LC.

Slow uncomfortable and ok handling..interesting although you are talking about two models probably eleven years apart....i own an 1150gsa and i had a1200gsa both great bikes but defo like my 1150 better, comfortable handles but yep not fast...but no GS is fast...my ZZR that was fast..

Depends where you ride , Spain I can loose a ZZR on the mountain roads as its a barge . Okay on an open road its quick , but theres no skill in that...

I have ZZR a well as my GS and it's far from being a "barge" I kept it to remind me what real acceleration feels like !

And what a slick gearbox feels like .

The rider and local knowledge will make more difference than the choice of large engined bike on a mountain road Marquez would probably be quicker than us all on a Goldwing.

I have an R1 as well as the GS , but on proper mountain roads , there is only one contender , the GS , I keep the R1 for track days and main roads , so it don't get used much lol.
