I have an issue I think with my choke lever, when I pull it up to the higher point it will not hold just drops back down with enough force to turn the choke off altogether. It's happy to sit on the standard position.

Is this the norm or am I being an arse?

it only stays there if held. I only ever use the first position, so can't comment about it flying back to the off position. Are we talking 1150 here? I am.

Hi eliminator

Yes is an 1150 GSA, it won't stay alight on the first position, just keeps stalling.

Maybe some fretting is inorder

All it does is speed up the idle, does the bike run OK once you're moving?

Yea she runs fine (sometimes feels a little low on revs when I come to a halt but it ticks over no problem apart from that,

Maybe I will adjust the hero title linkage as mentioned and see if that helps:thumb

My choke lever bounces back to about halfway if i pull it full on, not had it stop running though, it just thuds away while i am shoving my helemt and gloves on.

Your fast idle lever is doing what mine has from new - hold it for a few seconds against the spring if needed, then let it back to the first position and it should run fine. If not something probably needs adjusted, but the lever is OK.

That's exactly how it's meant to work. Full on for starting the engine, then let it fall back to the first notch , this is the riding off position.
Then off completely when the engine is warm enough.

I'm amazed by the amount of people who rev the engine with quick aggresive twists of the grip when it's cold, a big twin cylinder bike with a slow idle will stall -
My loan bike (1150R) is a good case in point, it's set up for a slow idle when hot, i have to explain and calm people down as they try and rev the bollox on and off with the engine cold and wonder why it stalls on them.
Only a very small percentage manage to ride off without any fuss, generally those who are mechanically sympathetic and smooth riders.

And don't mention 1200 riders/owners who have forgotten all about fast idles and chokes.......:D

Okay, here's my dumb contribution...
My lever doesn't stay on at all. So I reckon if all it does is raise the engine speed, then I find it easier just to hold the twist grip for a short time. Or is my theory wrong?

No, you are achieving exactly the same effect without the convenience of the throttle being locked in a partially open state so that one can don helmet, gloves etc.

I wish I could.

I've done 5000 miles on my S10 and I still keep trying to knock off the non-existent fast idle after the first half mile...

Ok so did as Steptoe advises above and..............

Bloody marvellous it worked spot on, full choke start drop lever one notch and let it idle NO REVVING don kit and ride off!!

I suppose its years of inline 4's and auto choke :blast

Cheers
