To quote Bjork...:D

I have picked up R1100GS number 4 advertised on this very site and it's great to be back with one... It's better than I remember...:D

While all those big spenders enjoy and often have stress attacks about every aspect of their WC's, I have picked up a good old 11 and given it a light set up and a good run around the country for fun... It's been great and for the money they are up for Oilheads give you the most value for money GS experience out there..:thumb

Non ABS etc and without all the manner of shite I put on the last one... And it feels lighter and lither than previous ones... And it looks surprisingly small next to the ubertanks that are modern GS's...

It has enough go to be fun and is far revvier and torque-ier than the last one I had (always amazes me how different they all are)... Nice and loose but also quiet and rattle free... They are also sooo simple that after finding the TB's tickover set tight on the cables with no slack, I reset by ear in 5-10 mins even overcoming a frozen BBS by just using the other...! After the next 400 miles I used my Brov in laws multimeter and a bit of stripped wire to reset the TPS from its sub .3v reading to approx. .375... Voila, 5 mins work, and much smoother around town and while not and probably never perfect, certainly perfectly acceptable...:D

The exhaust soot is present but not overly so meaning the CO pot is somewhere near... 50mpg on the trip is a bonus too...

Next up is fitting new paralever bearings as they are a bit loose... (they all do that sir)...

So here's to a virtually standard GS with a few useful extras, whisper quiet and ready to go hooning around in stealth mode... Didn't cost too much, will cost little enough to own and is full of the GS spirit and is nearly all solid metal...

And I still think the 11's look the best...:D

PS And cheers to the previous owner and his wife for being top folk...:D

I agree, an bit of a forgotten gem. Great value, great build quality, good fun, simple and reliable and like you I think they look good. Wishing you much fun.

And even more of a coincidence is... I was trawling The Bay tonight for GS "things" and spotted one of my old GS's... 11GS no 2... A bike that got me into the GS mindset after a false start with GS no 1 which was a bit of a dog...

This bike was bought at 15k miles in spotless condition... Ridden all year round and for a year as an instructor and has a lovely sounding Remus and then had a full Superchip dyno set up at their place somewhere near Andover as I remember...
It flew along and went everywhere from on the pegs in the Picos, over to Ireland, BMW open days, London trips and even a Cadwell Park outing... A great bike and I was a BM salesman when I sold it and had the company fleet to use so it had become seldom used... When I rode it to hand over to the next owner I was genuinely sad to be selling it as it rode so well...

I sold it in summer 2002 with approx 50k miles on...
