In a fit of extravagance a month ago, I filled up with the more expensive Miles plus petrol in my local circle K petrol station. At least I think it's called that. It's the more expensive option at any rate.

I noticed within a few miles that the bike was running smoother, quieter, had better acceleration at lower revs. The bike was nearly empty when I filled it, it took in 19 litres. All in all worth the extra 7 cents a litre. Now, I hear some of you cry SNAKE OIL :D . But I filled up yesterday with normal petrol from the same garage and the bike is back to the way it was before. I put in nearly 19 litres. I'm going to continue to use the more expensive stuff in future. I can't comment on getting more milage per gallon but I do believe my bike runs better on it.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Depends upon the bike and if it has knock sensors on each cylinder.

GSA felt smoother and got better mpg.

rr definitely smoother, more power

K13 ditto.

Trophy 12 no improvement noticed.

If you check owners handbook it will advise on which ron to use.

I more worried about ethanol rating.

Right, so it does make a difference. My bike is a 2007 1200 gs. The one right before the twin cams. I have no idea if I have a knock sensor. It certainly feels better. Anyone any opinions?

I definitely notice the difference on my 2007 GSA.

Also, when you're on the continent the next time.......put the fancy "actual" higher octane stuff in it. They go great.

It's worth the extra seven cents a litre isn't it! Does yours sound better?

But you have old technology with character. I’d only use it if it was more economical. I’ve a long memory and can well remember She’ll advance. Not everyone got compensated. You had to have proof that the damage was caused by the petrol. The cast iron cylinder head on my opel record weighed a ton. JJH

Ah lads, that’s two of you. I might give the lads in Duffy’s a bell, see what they say.

The difference is quite remarkable. Especially at low revs.

That’s the thing, the Ron is the same. 95. I’ve used 98 before abroad and that is better than 95 but these are both 95.

If, the ron is the same the only difference could be that one has slightly different additives than the other.

The manuals for the rr and K are clear, they make maximum power on 98ron. As there's a Costco not far from me I can get super unleaded for 1p a litre less than the supermarkets are charging for unleaded.

One of the bike mags found a % increase in range/power equivalent to the additional cost so things are pretty much equal.

I recall that the xjs v12 used to advise only using 5☆ which stopped in 1978 which was a bit of a bastard in 1997, the year before 4☆ ceased.

That was the xjs with the May head. Jaguars response to the problems was a thicker head gasket to lower the compression ratio. JJH

In the interests of me enjoying my bike and life in general, I’m just going to use the ‘good’ stuff till the bike blows up or I need the 7 cents per litre saving. It’s just remarkable though. Low end just bangs more. Combusts better. I’m not letting myself drive fast aft the moment so that’ll be tested when I get home from Spain in a good few weeks time.

You’s win. I put 22 liters of the snake oil in this morning. Didn’t notice anything different. Let’s see how I progress trough the tankfull. JJH

Your on an LC JJH ???

We might not be comparing apples with apples.

I can definitely (maybe) say (probably) that (allegedly) my 2007 Hexhead has a crisper throttle and pulls better using the super dooper Circle K stuff.

Maybe the newer engines are designed to run just as well on the more "green" fuels and the older tractor units appreciate a few more octane (and will let you know it)

That's my take on it inallsinanyways!!

Just because I don’t notice any improvement doesn’t mean there isn’t any. JJH

Couldn't sleep, so I went out earlier to try and catch the sunrise off Dun Laoire pier this morning with the camera. A beautifull morning. Bike is noticeably less good. A bit noiser, a bit rattlier, exhaust note a bit different. Not as crisp at low revs. Oh and I forgot the sd card for the camera:green gri . A beautiful morning to be out though.
