Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

HI , had my complete clutch and push rod replaced 200 miles ago ,and cannot see any difference !!!
it has never had any problem finding neutral always very easy . never had any problem with down changes .
always been a terrible change from 1st to 2nd but can accept that with the lower gear ratios and the long gear movement inside the box ,
But changes from 2nd to 3rd really grind some times and also 3rd to 4th .
.
I cannot understand how the problem can be so random with other bikes reporting smooth gear changes. will report this back to bmw to see what the response is ,

Question has anyone had the problem totaly rectified from a bike that had poor gear changes, to acceptable changes and is satisfied .or are BMW just fobbing us all off

I, like others, was told that it can take up to 500 miles to feel the difference/ benefit of this mod. BMW has obviously told this to all the dealers, so it would be interesting to hear from someone that had the mod done over 500 miles ago, how they are getting on.

"Oh! - Did we say 500? - We meant 5000"

Tried a new gs today, ive got a twin cam adventure at the moment. Been riding 26 odd years so im no newbie but imho the gearchange on the new gs i tried was 'odd'.

Finding gears wasnt hard but when i started the test ride the shift up into 4th gear was crunching harshly at low revs , oddly after an hours riding and on the A roads the gear change appeared to have improved and shift into 4th was fine (oil now warmed through?) , though i did notice crunching gears when revving the bike out in 2nd, 3rd, 4th towards the end of my extended test ride on overtakes.

Despite the iffy box on the example i tried, which i could live with, overall what a brilliant bike - i thought it was an absolute blast, light to ride and very zippy, so much quicker than my bike on the back roads and so much more responsive. Classy design , nice dash but looks more built down to a price now.

Clutch release rod update

I have never had a problem finding neutral but when I picked up the bike, I found that it jumped when going into first gear at a standstill. Also gear changes in the first 3 gears were quite rough.

I have had the rod fitted for some time now (my bike was one of the first to be updated ) and it is much smoother now, still crunches a bit into first, but so do my other wet clutch bikes, however this product update seems to be increasingly improving the gear changes all the time.

Still it is the best bike I have ever had. Been riding for nearly 50yrs.

Come on you guys....posts have really slowed down.
Don't tell me you've all come to the conclusion that what you've got is what you have to ride or have you all just got used to it? :augie

Thats about the size of it those few that did have legitimate problems have been sorted, those that thought they had problems have found there's nothing wrong, and those that have run their bikes in and have a few thousand miles on them, so are now smoother.

The King is dead, long live the King.

Not quite, I had my clutch push rod fitted on October 10th and due to the weather have only done about 100 miles on it and so far it is not cured:blast I don't expect to put enough miles on it now until the Spring (blah blah fair weather rider bol*x)

So time will tell if it is OK if it isn't I hope BMW come up with something else as the bike is GREAT otherwise:thumby: But however great it is some of us are having problems!

I don't think the problem is so random, I suspect that apart from a few genuine 'broken' gear boxes that it is more a case of perception and expectation - the gear box has its characteristics like all BMW gear boxes and I think that some people think these characteristics mean that it is broken.

Well in my case I have decided to give it up as a bad joke. The push rod has been replaced the clutch fluid dropped and engine oil level lowered to the mid point.
I would say that the gear change is better but still not as good as my last 2008 adventure. The bike has now done nearly 9000 miles so is run in.
As i have already stated I have come to an agreement with BMW towards a the new adventure when it comes out, so I have given up on this one and can only wait for the new one in March.
And before anyone thinks I have money to burn I usually change bike about every 4 years so you can see how sick I am of this one.
It is a real shame as the in every other respect it is the best GS I have ever had even with all the other faults this one has had. All the other faults have been fixed to my satisfaction and mostly did not detract from the enjoyment of the bike but the gear change is inexcusable.
My bike was one of the first so I hope that the fault has been fixed on the newer ones.

So to end with my first post on the 1200LC section

"I have ordered the new bike and I no its going to end badly you should never buy the first of a new model" or something like that:blast

Hmmmm what makes you think that the GSA LC gearbox will be any different? The fact that they did all those things to your bike and it didn't make a great difference might just tell you something? The box does feel different to the previous dry clutch GS BUT I don't think it is any worse or better (apart from the clonk) into 1st. In some aspects it better, it is far slicker at the high speed, high gear changes, but can be a feel a little 'notchier' when changing down at low speed - matching the engine speed with a little 'blip' as you slide in the next gear makes a big difference.

My bike was one of the first in the UK too - I suspect that the GSA LC will be exactly the same, some people have already said that the 2014 bike is the same and it is the same engine in the GSA with just a flywheel weight increase. You had better try one out before you buy.

Have you actually ridden any of the bikes where the owners are having problems?

:

Sorry to burst your bubble but apart from the engine colour change to black and the flywheel weight its going to be the same engine as you have now .

Clunk clunk, snick snick.......

And there were those, like me, who had problems that weren't fixed and whose bikes have been replaced. I pick my new one up soon.

Not here yet, my factory TE replacement was pushed to the front of the Q and hopefully should be here within the nxt 2 wks, I've fully spec'd this one, in blue colour, wires, addiction lights, tinted screen, new vario's foc, tbh i think they'll be glad to see the back of me.

Nice

And I hope all is good with your new one so you can enjoy it like the rest of us lucky enough to have been trouble free.
