Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Firstly blimey 440 posts n 24000 views do I get a medal... LOL

There is an interview in the latest BMW Motorcyle Magazine which addresses the shifting complaints...note he seems to confirm that overfilling of the oil could be a problem. Pasted below:

NEWS | INTERVIEW

Jens Staebe: The separation behavior of a wet clutch type of construction is affected by the supply of oil to the clutch plates. In addition to the use of the approved type of oil and the correct oil level, the intensity of lubrication of the clutch plates is crucial. The amount of oil is essentially determined by the cross section of the oil passages in the clutch pressure plate. Due to the present manufacturing process of the clutch and the tolerance range of the pressure piece, lubrication of the clutch plates and therefore the separation behavior may vary within a certain range.

This could be adding up, to too higher oil level when running = clutch slip, that then generates heat, so plates warp, clutch starts to drag, first symptoms lousy changes because its just a bit sticky now n then, second symptom cant find neutral because dragging so bad...???

My first clutch had two plates that where blue n warped when replaced, I bet this one is the same when they get it back.

Ordered a 2014 GS reading all this I'm wondering what I'm getting in to ! Took me 6 years to save for it ! :eek

Don't worry by 2014 it will be sorted, as long as you use the correct oil and are fastidious about how much you put in. ;)

There's nothing wrong with most of the 2013 models, apart from a few on here.:blast:rolleyes:

Because this place blows things out of all proportion.:rob

But you don't know that a proportion of the people who've bought these new bikes, who don't subscribe to this forum, haven't had the same problems? So your statements worthless or at best delusional.

There seems to be a problem. Quite a few owners on here seem to have the problem. Remember that only a proportion of owners use this forum and to them, after paying £14-15K this is a fekking big problem. So the proportion of of problems is irrelevant. They have a massive amount of money invested in a motorcycle that has a serious problem. So don't try and minimise it!

I'm not minimising it at all, but I personally know a few LC owners with no problems, and on the Adv site there are loads of owners with no issues.:rob

To right. My gearbox Is shit and has been since just after its first service and it now has 7200 miles on it. I have been waiting over three months for BMW to come up with a fix and I am still no nearer to a solution. And don't even get me started about all the other faults which I have put down to a new models teething problems but that gearbox is beyond a joke and if I had read the reports on here I would have waited until I was 100% sure it had been fixed on all the bikes.

So get rid of it then.:rob If I had these problems, I would just get rid, either reject the bike or sell it. Why do so many people moan moan moan? You're not forced to keep the bike, are you?:rob:blast:rolleyes:

So easy to say Nutty but so hard to do when the poor sods have spent there hard earned and don't want to commit financial suicide.

It's a forum and this is the WC section. Why do you get so uptight when people who own these 15k test bed bikes share their stories and woes with their bikes ?
I just don't get it.
If your is ok tats great for you but clearly a good few have unacceptable problems.

No offence but you seem to be defending them like you are the marketing director for BMW. :nenau

I did try that but I would have lost over £3000 in three months and seeing as I have to work for a living that was just to much so I will have to keep it and moan or tell the truth. As for rejecting the bike after several months and over 7000 miles if you know how I can make that happen I would be forever in your debt.
By the way I actually like the bike apart from the faults its a great improvement but with BMW's inability to rectify all the known faults on the last model I don't hold up much hope for a quick fix ( shaft drive. Fuel pump controller suspension leaks etc)

I understand that when people spend a lot of money on a motorcycle, they
are prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, but if I had these issues with my bike, I would give BMW a time scale to fix the problem, and if its not fixed, the bike would be rejected. People are too afraid to put their foot down, for some strange reason.:nenau I'm not a director of BMW, but if you're not happy with it, and the problem is so bad, then return it to BMW as its obviously not fit for purpose.

If I purchase a bike, and its not up to scratch, have no doubt, I WILL reject it. I have no loyalty to BMW, and if I buy a BMW, and it's shite, you will know about it.:rob I would have absolutely no problem taking a bike back to a dealer, and throwing the keys at them, and demanding a refund or replacement if the bike was as bad as is being reported.:rob

There are obviously some bikes with issues, but I just don't understand why people that have shelled out £15k on a bike will sit around waiting for BMW to make the next move.:nenau
