Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Silly question but is it possible to get a little oil out but without draining the lot and starting again

Is there a reason draining engine oil would help changing gears

Cheers

Mind you, this is only conjecture on my part, so may be completely wrong, but if it is the case that oil is causing the clutch plates to not separate as much or as easily as they should, then perhaps reducing the depth of the oil bath that the clutch rests in would allow the plates to separate more easily? :nenau

Dead easy.

Get an old 5 litre can, cut side out of it and place under oil filter.
loosen oil filter a half a turn or so, and start bike.
Oil will dribble out as long as you do not loosen it too far.
When you have the requisite quantity removed, stop bike and tighten filter again.

thanks for the info :)

I've just had the 600 mile service and the oil is at the very top of the sight glass. Looking at the manual it says the level should be checked when the engine oil is hot which will only increase the oil level I have.

the manual shows a recommended level of between min (quarter full) and max (three quarters full)

Ill be having words with bmw

Nice one thanks Myke :)

... so instead you take the interrupt wires to the throttle bodies, there's 2 wires on each body, 1-live positive feed and the other is the interrupt wire, you tap into the interrupt wire on each throttle body.

Ding, thanks for the info.

So I take it there a no long term issues with interrupting the throttle body signals with this system?

250 miles yesterday and no issues at all 70% of my riding i was using the Q-shifter .

Since the new clutch rod was fitted to my bike ( my bike was one of the first to have these mods done) and I had the new clutch slave cylinder fitted the gear changes have improved. I never had a problem finding neutral but had the bike jumping quite badly when I selected first and had very rough changes up and down in the first three gears.

I have now been a few hundred miles since the parts were fitted.
What an improvement today, just been only another hundred miles. Major improvement, just a small clunk into first and the standard BM box. What a great bike.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but part numbers?

Can anyone tell me the NM torque settings for the sump plug ?

Thx D

That's shocking, I drained quite a bit from mine but the wife wouldn't be best pleased if I used her measuring jug to identify the amount :)

Did you notice any improvement once drained

Early days I need to take it for a run, as I only rd it upto temp, but standing still it went into 1st and selected all gears with more ease. I was shocked at the level of oil I removed, can't understand why they fill it more than the required max circle in the glass !

Oh I cleaned the jug and put it back in the cupboard she will never no ...

Especially when their own manual says that overfilling can cause damage

Smart move with the jug :)

Don't think the oil level will help mine as the level isn't above the max mark? Hope I get my clutch rod before too long, fingers crossed that does the trick for mine!

Might be the cure for some bikes especially those that got worse after the 1st service?
