Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

But don't forget the fault isn't just clunking into 1st gear my main problem is clunking changing up from 2 to 3 & 3 to 4!

I don't have a problem finding neutral but I have every sympathy with those who have this problem after having it with 1 of my 3 K1300's

Great service

My bike is now at Clarkes motorcycles (BMW) Rednal Birmingham being sorted , I must add that they have been brilliant in helping me to sort this ongoing problem.
They are tied by BMW and can do so much , but they have been brilliant and really helped. Hats off to a great dealer :clap:clap:clap

any of you contacted that bod on MCN who has one as a longtermer , up to 12 k now i think and i dont think he has mentioned this issue once :eek:

More like BMW told him not to diss the bike within the pages of MCN .

Bike owned for 4 months. In dealers for 2 of them for gear change issues. Bike rejected and being replaced with a new one. Problem? Yes. Riding ability? I don't think so. Thank you and goodnight.

Apart from a very few genuine cases of things that were actually broken with the gearbox, I suspect that this whole thread is more to do with peoples' psychology and the fact that this gearbox feels different to the previous dry clutch and agricultural gearbox of the previous boxers.

One other observation I think might be relevant is that because this new engine has more torque and spins up and down the revs so more freely (lighter flywheel?) than the old bike I find it more difficult to precisely match the revs when changing down, but with practice one gets used to it.

Perhaps this might be a reason why the new Adventure version has a heavier crank, maybe it will require less skill when changing gear - it will be interesting to hear what it is like when they start to deliver it.
What a load off bollocks

I was in WH Smiths, discussing with the sales lady about my decision to read War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy.
She said that it was a bit of a chore, and some find it difficult to 'get into', and that she had received a tip from the publishers to help potential readers of this book find it stimulating.

She secretly handed me a slip of paper. On it were these words ....

UkGSER. Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Well, I've taken her advice .... here goes.

"Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist — I really believe he is Antichrist — I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my 'faithful slave,' as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you- sit down and tell me all the news................

Bloody hell, it worked !!!

not really

Mmmm my new 90th GSA is silky smooth on all changes and no clonk in first. Guess there will be a few jealous Toilet riders out there.....:hide:fiddle

Not really I love my water cooled and it behaves exactly like any other wet clutched bike, there are a lot of comparisons made between the old and the new GS but its pointless they are miles apart. there is also a lot of mechanical ignorance regarding what is normal.

But we are all entitled to our opinions but in reality the water cooled GS has been developed over a number of years and has been designed to out perform its predecessor, BMW would not risk up dating their world beater with something inferior and I fully expect that the new GSA 1200 in March 2014 will be the best adventure bike available. think about it the current GS WC is out selling all the others and the real off roader is yet to come.

I'm with Engineer on this, the way it clunks into 1st is so reasuring, and the way it graunchs and clanks as it move's through to 4th is just sublime. Nobody can take away the joyous memories when it wouldn't select the next ratio at all and left me paddling it on a roundabout or sweating on a overtake, happy memories indeed. Nice one BMW.

Of course all this will be behind me now as iv'e had the upgraded push rod, first one the dealer has had to do apparently, apart from the bikes they've done before mine.

Is there a similar thread on the American ADV rider site about gearbox problems/complaints? Can someone point me to it please?

Dropped off the bike with the dealers on Sat. I was given an LC ( the bike that I rejected some months ago:blast ) as loan bike . Well ...the gear change issue is the same, apart changing from 3rd 4th is better. :augie
