Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Wouldn't bother looking there, the yanks don't moan as much as us, the only ones complaining on that site, are the whingers from here.......!

:nenau

Well that's what I was thinking - I had a quick look but couldn't find any whinging about the gearbox, I assumed that because of the level of whinging over here that I must have missed something.

Ok...Let me ask you this. What will it take for you to acknowledge that there is a problem ? Do you want to ride my bike ? For cock sake . :blast

As it happens ...... I would like to have a go on a problem bike. Mine is absolutely fine, always has been, and I don't know (so take that as a genuine comment in the spirit that's it meant!) what people are moaning about. So yes, I'd like a go!! :D

I acknowledge that some people have a real problem - problems happen with all mechanical things BUT I do wonder how big this problem really is. As I have said before I don't like the 'clonk' when putting the bike into first and I wish that there was a fix for that but I am not holding my breath because it is clear that it is caused by clutch drag.

I also understand that this box is different to the previous one and one cant expect it to feel the same. Yes I would like a go on your bike so that I could compare it with mine.

Copy pasted from advrider forum:

Well, I done over 4500 miles , issues with the gear change ( 1-2-3-4 ) so "new" clutch rod fitted, oil taken out from the engine and clutch reservoir. All this modifications are on the advice from the factory. None has made any difference .
Bike is back with the dealer for evaluation...

Real simple solution to all the problems and issues -buy yourself an R1100 GS-problem solved. !

45,866 views, maybe BMW should take note of the interest that's being generated here..
Potential future customers being put off maybe..?

Don't be silly. Most normal people will go and ride one, THEN judge for themselves before making a decision.

Well as soon as I get the bike back:D I normally pop down to Wye maybe we can arrange something:thumb2

New push rod is now fitted to my bike. They're bringing it back later this week. I'll report my findings once I've ridden it at the weekend.:thumb

Ooh oho ooh... Me too! Id love a go on a problem bike too to see what it feels like.

I'd let you have a go on mine so you can experience a good 'un. Especially now it's got round wheels again!

Clutch and new pushrod mod

Just read through all the replies and it all sounds like us new GS owners have been sold a lemon! My bikes done almost 4000 miles it ratchets into first from neutral having to be crunched into gear. Going from first to second it catches the top of the gear teeth knocking lever back into foot. All the lower gears do not go in smoothly and it's worse with the engine hot. With it on centre stand and engine stopped in first or second with clutch pulled in rear wheel is still engaged with gearbox it will not freely rotate. And here's the best one - it had the pushrod mod 400 miles ago! I think I,ll apply for a job with BMW R&D department and stop working for free!

clacks and crunches

HI , had my complete clutch and push rod replaced 200 miles ago ,and cannot see any difference !!!
it has never had any problem finding neutral always very easy . never had any problem with down changes .
always been a terrible change from 1st to 2nd but can accept that with the lower gear ratios and the long gear movement inside the box ,
But changes from 2nd to 3rd really grind some times and also 3rd to 4th .
.
I cannot understand how the problem can be so random with other bikes reporting smooth gear changes. will report this back to bmw to see what the response is ,

Question has anyone had the problem totaly rectified from a bike that had poor gear changes, to acceptable changes and is satisfied .or are BMW just fobbing us all off
