Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

Yes I drained it from my 2013 and it made a big difference. Neutral was still impossible though unless the clutch lever adjuster was on the no.4.

The dealer filled it right back up though come service time to the recommended level.and problems started again. I had all the other fixes and it got worse not better.

Change to the 2014 model and everything works perfectly. V strange. I don't have to stretch my hand now and have the gear lever adjuster on no. 2! Mine was a bad one.

Everybody happy now:nenau

Bikes either sold/replaced/given away or gearboxes/engines replaced free of charge...:nenau

Must have gone away, like Engineer says and everybody all warm and cosy now, with their GS WC gearboxes :comfort...just checking:thumb2

Damn JB you beat me to it.

Keep this world famous thread alive!!

And all please note, engineer has a new bike now, even commented about the warranty being someone else's problem now!
I thought you said Billy Basic was best, less to go wrong etc. :nenau
I still think simple is best and I don't really want all the bling, but price difference to get the new bike is not that great by the time I've added heated grips and cruise control - will only be keeping it 2 years max before the next one, so next owner will have the worry of things going wrong out of warranty :)
See, he doesn't really have confidence in the product.

I recon most LC's are hibernateing , wait until spring :D

Mines had a new clutch so is snickety snick now, long may it continue it was pretty awful before but fair play to them they have sorted it and its the best gs change, the others were fine but a tad sloppy/agricultural in comparison.

Mine's been out all winter (unlike a certain well known Tosser's 1150 :P) and all is just fine a dandy thank you :D

'Twas very nice out on it today in the sunshine :thumb2

Some people cannot read :) I don't get the new bike until April the 1st - This will be my 4th 1200gs, how does that by any stretch of the imagination show a lack of confidence in the GS?, just the opposite I'd say :)

if I planned on keeping it for several years I wouldn't want the expense of replacing the LED headlight and a worn out dynamic suspension - however I don't plan on keeping it for a long time so that is no longer a worry for me - I am told by most people that resale is easier with all the toys, is that true?

Fancy swapping the grips from your new bike for those from an earlier model ? I am sure you would have no complaints and I am equally sure they would fit.

Hi folks
Have not read every post on this thread (it's a bit long) so first few pages then skipped to last few.
Have now got a 2015 GS with heavier crank and Gear shift assist.
It does clunk more than my old 57 plate GS into first gear but GSAP is superb.
Wondered if the bike was designed with GSAP in mind and that this might contribute to gearbox problems some people are having without it ?.
Just a thought.

15 GSA for me, and it has the smoothest gearbox of any bike that I've had. :beerjug:

If I change from 1st to 2nd speed at 4500 or 5000 rpm is perfect. Makes no noise.
But if I change to 7500 or 8000 rpm Crunch . Makes a very ugly noise. For me it's the worst gearbox of a motorcycle. My motorcycle is 2014 model with 6500 km.

In Spain put oil 5W40 Castrol Power 1 Racing. Someone has put the Castrol Power 1 Racing 10W50? I think it may be better for the gearbox ... More thick hot.

More like the opposite way around, GSAP was to hide the gearbox issue, BMW cannot resolve the problem because every bike is different, some forum bods 'nutty' have perfect boxes, others don't.

My twin cam has GSAP, great bit of kit ain't it :) the haters said wtf you got a quickshifter ! However the majority of them also have it now !!

That was the exact problem mine had, it was built in feb 2014. A new clutch was fitted which has fixed the issues.

Love to know what the clutch mod is as my lc has a terrible gearchange in the lower gears ,worse than my old 1150 was and nowhere near as clean or slick as my 2011 gsa,I rode the same route on the lc then the tc and then on a 1977 Jawa 350 twin and the TC had the best box, the lc whlst good in 4th ,5th and 6 th was the worst of the lot in 1st , 2nd and 3rd

It was a new 'clutch pack' . I dont know what that means in detail. I took it to Allan Jefferies after the initial diagnosis and they said there were a few things they could try inc something about adjusting the final drive (i guess similar to if you over tighten a bikes chain drive it can mess with the gearchange too).

The gearchange was fine in general use but when riding it hard and holding the revs in the lower gears it graunched really badly. They even admitted themselves the gearchange on it was quote 'bad'. I've had lots of gs's now and it was not right.

Three days later bike was back and all is good.
