Clean & Re-use Cable Distribution Box?

Mine cleaned & greased-up OK but I discovered the e-clip/c-clip? had broken so you might want to get a couple of spares (pennies) before you start dismantling.

Thanks Andy, I don't mind buying the new one but....if it's fine to reuse why not.

What did you lube it with after the clean?

On mine, the centre shaft everything swivels on had corroded making the whole thing stiff so it got replaced for @ 20.00? I recall.

For '02 GS, I had to get an adaptor for the twist-grip end to match new style cable to old style twist housing. Worth checking...
Splitter box on mine was fine one cleaned.
Oiling the cables is a no-no, it made mine worse. Swells the liners or whatever but just got stiffer. New cables made it like a new bike.

Yep, will get that new part for pre 04 bikes accelerator cable. :thumb Didn't plan on putting any lube on the cables...just wondering about the mechanism in the distribution box

just done mine new cables lubed the bowden box with lithium grease.

I needed the mod bit on my 02 at the throttle end. My splitter box was fine but I used silicone grease to lube it in case any got up the cable inners. You have to re balance the throttle bodies after you fit the cables. Did make it feel like a new bike and less stretch knocking out the balance on the shorter cables than I thought there would be?

My bike is non ABS so I removed the battery box to do the job. This is not necessary apparently but since all I had to do was take out the battery and undo a couple of AV mounts it made the job very easy rather than poking about blind underneath it. It also give me a chance to clean and repaint the battery carrier that was starting to peel a bit. Might be an unnecessary can of worms on an ABS bike though. .:D
