Hi
Today I've decided to do something with my bike "hunting" at idle and often stalling at traffic lights (r1200gs 2010r)

First step was to see if there is any crap blocking the Idle actuator and clean throttle body and look what I found
throttleb1.jpg

Yes BLACK PAINT IS COMMING OFF !!!
I don't think this could block the Idle motor but who knows where the paint goes :nenau

and after

Did it help ?
well
Will let you know tomorrow after long test ride :thumby:

Planned work schedule if this not solve the problem:
Adjusting ignition timing
Adjusting valve clearance
It might be a good idea to test the coils or swap

Wow what a mess? I bet it'll help with your erratic idle and stalling. Had the same symptoms on my K1200GT with 24K, not paint but from air/oil mist contaminant build up right there around the butterfly. It was very slight but after cleaning thoroughly it idled fine again.

Blimey - what a mess, looks like the coating isn't fuel resistant.

Is this the standard internal finish on all Hex Heads? I can't believe the internals are coated - I really can't.

If so I'll be doing the same thing to mine.

I'm sure mine are unpainted (but not taken them off to look), so which models have painted throttle bodies?

What tool did you use for the clips?Need something to remove and refit the hose clips without marking them up.If you used a special tool have you a part No cheers Pete:beerjug:

special tool ;)

I was using small pliers similar to this

I think any pliers should do the trick

I got slammed for suggesting narrow band worm drive clips are a better option. But they are available in the same 8mm width as the (almost) single use clips that BMW fit. Terry Reddiseal make 8mm hose clips in the correct diameter range.

"hunting" at idle and often stalling FIXED!!!

Cleaning throttle body alone didn't fixed engine "Hunting", whoever yesterday I was playing with AUTOTUNE, GS911 and Power Commander
Engine was running very lean at idle around 15.0-15.4:1 AFR.
Adding 10% of fuel at 1000-2000 RPM throttle position 0'
solved the problem !
Now engine is running with constant sped 1150 -1200 rpm and AFR 14.0:1 - 14.2:1 (very responsive)
So If you made any changes to the engine "Plumbing" or remove Lambda sensor I would recommend to check Air to Fuel Ratio at Idle

Hope this helps:thumby:

very well done fixing your surging DenzO, for the benefit of us curious about the Autotune and Power Commander (well, me at least...), can you give us a bit more detail, cheers :)

In my personal opinion Power Commander is worth the money and gives you some control over the engine management (if you interested)
There is great thread about PCV and Autotune http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?352277-The-Power-Commander-Files
Alternatively you could use:
Booster plug (in real life 1K ohm potentiometer ) Rich up the AFR mixture by tricking the computer (only works on lower rev range )and could cost penny's
Remap by Hill Top -Very good Choice but the map stays with the bike forever :)

All very interesting, I've been down the BoosterPlug route and that led to a Hilltop remap. Now the bikes running way better than it ever did, but still suspect a little more fuel around the 2000 rpm area would improve it, bit late now as I'm seriously thinking of moving on.

Thanks anyway, Martin
