Wire and rotary brushes aren't deep enough or too wide. Don't have time for an engine out job but the barrels and heads look a dull grey mess and need a tidy. Takes a bit of time.

Paint supply shops in Oz usually have various types of Scotchbrite , and a sheet of the brown one, which has aluminium oxide grit, works OK.
If you cut a couple of 100 mm dia pieces and mount them on a spindle between a couple of bits of 80 mm dia ply it make a good mop for cleaning up nicasil or galnickel bores too, and a is a bit ckeaper and easier to find than the stuff with diamond grit used by the OEM manufacturers.
