Recently picked up my new GSA in Matt Red!! Now I have not had a matt finish before on a bike, did some research on the internet regarding matt finish paint care, lots of " don't do's". Anyone out there with a matt finish and some tips on cleaning and protecting the finish.
Cheers

Spray on window cleaner, like mr muscle or similar that's all you need

I have a matt red and I clean this bike the same as all the others i have previously had.

Muc Off Silicone Shine

I've always used Muc Off Silicone Shine on the black plastic parts on all my bikes, its got a back to black thing going on, but I used it yesterday for the first time on my new (to me) racing blue 2014 GSA TE, including on the blue painted parts and it worked a treat. I even use it on the engine casing, wheel rims, hoses... basically everything metal plastic of rubber (I do avoid tyres and brake discs obviously). It leaves a lovely sweet bubblegum smell. It claims to protect and prevent grime build up on treated surfaces and make future cleaning easier... I think it does to an extent. Give it a try.

Thanks for the tips so far, please keep them coming. I like the way you guys look for the cheap way of doing things!!

Yes, there is a video from BMW showing you how to care for Matte Finish/ Frozen paint finish. They mainly tell you to wash only with a ph neutral shampoo. But there are products out there that protect the finish ( they are a bit pricey). I just wondered if anybody out there had used them? :nenau

Have you thought of asking the people that made, painted and sold you the bike?

Andres

Yeah, there replacing the tank under warrantee as we speak.....bloody BMW and there crap paint:D

I use silicone spray on my Rockster, turns the finish more satin than matte but it soon reverts to normal.

I wouldn't use anything that claims to make things shiny on matt paint. I've had a couple of matt painted cars/bikes and always found that warm water does the job of cleaning.

For protection you can buy specific waxes for matt finishes. They're not cheap mind!
Check out Swiss Vax, they do a whole range of shampoos, spray ons and waxes.

I've treated my bike with Gyeon Q2 MOHS. It's expensive, but worth it. (They also make a slightly cheaper version, called PRIME). It's a bit expensive and it requires a bit of effort to apply it, but you only have to do it once and all you'll ever have to do again is wash the bike. Washing it is much easier too. My bike is 95% clean after power-hosing it and I only get the sponge out to remove the flies and other harder-to-remove dirt. My paint is more satin than matt, but when I was asking Polished Bliss whether it would affect the finish on my paint or not, they said that some of their customers have used it on matt and frozen finishes, with no change in the finish except maybe a slight darkening. (Polished Bliss are a top class company. I buy all my detailing products from them. They're also generous with advice and information, which is one reason I love to deal with them)

I have a thread here that I wrote about detailing my bike and applying the paint protection: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/418631-R1150GS-Adventure-Protection-Detail/. At the bottom of the second post, there's a video of me applying the MOHS. Applying it is easy, once you've cleaned what you're applying it to.

WD40 on the matte blue paint on mine. :)

I love the matte paint jobs plus matte rhymes with latte. :D

Well I watched the youtube clip as above, and that is the most detailed cleaning I have ever seen. Can't see my wife letting me bring the GSA in the dining room though!!
