cleaning in-between the fins

I get the water out with a leaf blower - in fact I tend to dry the whole bike with one and then squirt a bit of WD40 around the metalwork and then wipe it all down.

After a good wash I 'paint' WD40 between the fins with a paint brush. It works well and the WD40 will act as a degreaser and leave some behind to act as a film of protection. Also smells good when the engine warms up

I also do this on the other engine parts. My GS is a 2010, I use it every day for work and still looks mint. Although we don't get our roads seasoned liberally with salt all winter which, I imagine, helps a bit

I use a narrow long handled brush with bristles about 1" long. I had to heat the handle to bend it straight like a tooth brush so it'd reach right in from the front. The black gets sprayed with S100 twice a year.

Nothing wrong with looking after your bike.

Oxford products Nutty about a tenner ,sold at most bike events. I also have a collection of toothbrushes ,bottle brushes,dental floss for spokes. Cleaned deep 3 times a year but rinsed after every ride . ACF50 from November to April. Works for me.

Mmm, some folks have a lot of time on their hands. I spray dc101 or whatever its called on all the dirty bits and hose it off. 5 minute job. Brilliant stuff. Much better than Muck Off.

Mine gets a jet wash when I can be bothered with all the faff getting out hose, cable, etc etc etc, zzzz. Water collects between the fins when it rains but blows away when I ride the bike.

I used to be really precious about my bikes, then I grew up I clean the bike once a week and spray and paint on Scotoiler FS365 to keep corrosion at bay - once the tar spots build up too much I get out the white spirit - but these days I prefer riding to cleaning.

I again, Hmmm I should have been more specific. I have a 2005 and the bit in-between the fins is a proper mess - loose paint, corrosion, dirt, insects etc. Yes I know it wont detract from the bikes performance, but it bothers me I guess I will have to live with it, or remove said cylinder head and have it shot blasted.

I wire brushed that area with a dremel and drill using soft bronze brushs and then painted. Its always going to wear quick so I don't think its worth spending much time over. Even the new ones age quickly. That is one are where the LC is definitely designed better. But it would be seeing as it doesn't need as much cooling.

I was wondering the same thing.

Mine is ridden all the time and gets covered in shit. Not sure it has ever got to te stage when I need a cotton bud to clean it.
