Cleaning wire wheels

Does anyone know if this is safe long term on black rims? I use it on the cars alloys but have always been a bit nervous of using it on the bike in case it strips off anodisation etc.

Not Sure if i would want to use it on my black rims just in case.

Are they black, or silver spoked wheels, Martin?

:) Spokes are silver, but the rims are odd.

They look like a cross between very very sparkly paint, and anodised.

Almost like a superfine metallic.

the marks are as if the top surface has been broken, and dirt has leeched into / under the top surface

I hit a section again with the genuine rim cleaner, and a toothbrush, despite being done on Sunday, the section went deep purple and yes

it improved the appearance, the black marks are still there :(

So black rims/ silver spokes? Shove a pic up, let's see, as some here may have had the same issue. ;)

Right, pics

If the rim is painted, is almost a soft sheen finish, not a full gloss so to speak

But the finish looks more like pearlescent, certainly a lot of flake content

These are the marks that are all over the wheels

Have you tried GT85 on them yet? I’ve used it to get rid of all sorts of marks from my bikes over the years, including the wheels on my GSA’s, but they were black.

That looks like silver anodising, the staining may come off with white spirit or similar,
Another option is to try a small area very lightly with t cut paint restorer,

They are same rims I have and I do think Bilt hamber will get them better than that. Mine had the same staining and are much better now. They are not like new but good enough for me. Buy some if your not happy I will buy yours lol at a reduced price. If I can be bothered I will take a picture but my bike is 7 years old and 36000miles

Well the Bilt Hamber turned up,

and i have to say it made almost sod all difference.

i'm going to have another go tomorrow alternating with Bilt & BMW cleaners

I use Sonax Xtreme Wheel Cleaner Full Effect. Available from ebay. Squirt it on agitate with a stiff brush, rinse off and Bobs your uncle. I then apply ACF50, WD40 etc with a cloth for added luster and protection. Easy really.

I got it from a friend at 2k miles at 5 years old. It’s as likely as not washed by AJ each service time.

Ali rims with stainless spokes( I think) SDoc/autoglym for last 10 years

Got pissed off looking at them , and thought sod it and rolled out the big boys

T cut, for mettalics

It works :), Not perfect, but way way better.

than i'll hit it with some bilt hamber and then polish the fecker

Hello guys, is it enough to use a vinegar cleaner to clean wire wheels if they no heavily adhere dirt on wheels? I wonder if it is possible as this way will be very cheap.

Mr Hatcho has it on Page 1 .. spray a bit of ACF50 into a cup and with a soft brush just brush around the edges and spokes .. it seeps in everywhere. Wipe off any excess job done. :thumb
