Does anyone know if it is possible to get a clear rear light/brake lens

Clear rear light lens?

Ho Ho Ho!
I know someone who has spent 15 sovs on a pair of red l.e.d. stop & tail bulbs, only to find they aren't that effective through a red lens!
:o

mr humvee

thats very cynical of you sir!!!!

cant believe thats the case!!!!:D

He's right. DOH!!! Seemed like a good idea at the time. No more blown bulbs. Exchanging for hyperbrights so lets see if they are any better

also just paid £9.95 for one Stop and tail and its half the brightness of the standard, plus I broke my bulb getting it out !

Been there, done that. removed the crap LED. Look at Nippy Normans (who I still can't access!!!!!!!) I'm sure thre's a pukka jobbie on there somewhere.

Medicbike, probably help if you stated what bike you have

Unless the design has changed, but the clear leanse that I saw did not have a reflector built into it. :nenau

MOT failure I believe. :nenau

Plus, when the red LED tail/brake light panel was fitted, the white LED's that faced downwards to illuminate the number plate could be seen from the rear as well.

White lights shining rearwards are just another excuse for Plod to stop you. :nono

Not so long ago I fitted some LED indicator panels and the afore mentioned tail/brake LED panel and clear lense.

Even the guy whose bike it was, was very dissapointed with the finished results. Not to sure how much it all came to, but it was shit load of dosh to spend, I do rememebr that much. :(

PS
IMHO the best thing to fit to the rear are the Nippy Norman Lite Buddies, excellant bits of kit, and only a 1/4hr to fit 'em. :thumb

There are different types of LED lights - the cheaper versions can only be seen from absolutely straight on, not from any other angle.

The more expensive can be seen at any angle .

Eliminator....it probably would have helped saying what bike it was for when I asked originally. Thanks for the prompt reply, I asked the question in May 2003!!!!. :rob p.s. it was an 1150. Now on my second 1200 with a clear lens LED arrangement fitted.

I'm now the expert on LED's having build rear, front auxiliary and indicator units that fit in the stock housings. :)

The issue is generally with companies using few LED's per application because LED's are relatively expensive. On my rear unit I have 54 red led's alone facing straight on. These are about 2000mcd at 30 degrees which is about as bright as it gets for red leds and they cover the whole surface area at the rear, however you still need the red plastic to defract the light further.

Previous poster about reflector build into red plastic is correct, it will fail MOT.

To pass the MOT the reflector doesn't have to be part of the rear light, it just needs to be clearly visible to the rear of the machine. My son's bike was a failed MOT for not having a rear reflector, and for a quid, the tester supplied / attached a round sticky-backed reflector (about the size of a £1 coin) to the lower edge of the number plate, to pass the MOT.

I have had /got a clear rearlens (nippy normans) used qwith the diode conversion it shows white lite through the lens as well, this will not pass mot. dave gs.
