Clearing space for Garmin software

Hi guys,

I'm trying to load on my Quest software but the program tells me that i need to free up more space on the memory. I've tried disinstalling most of the junk(photos & old progarms) on my pc but it still won't load.
C drive total is 4.2 with 860mb free
D drive is 1.3 total with 730mb free.

It's frustrating as i want my Quest up and running with all the software.
What's the best way to free up some space?
Any help would be much appreciated.

At the risk of giving an obvious answer, you need to delete a programme or two.

How much space is the Garmin instal saying it needs???

The easiest way (but not the best from a rechnical p.o.v) is go to start, control panel, add/remove programmes and look at the list of progs it brings up....on the right hand side it'll also show you the memory the progs take so go down the list until you find a programme thatyou don't need that's a bit bigger than the amount that the Garmin prog wants (I doubt it'll be much as you've already got a fair bit as you said), then uninstall it and try again with the GArmin instal.

Thanks - the first disk needs 650mb, I haven't tried the 2nd.

Q. - Do you know if you can install Mapsource on more than one PC? I was thinkin gof installing on work and home PC.

For most people on this forum the simple answer would be to delete some of your porn collection.

Otherwise you really have a problem because doing the obvious things like deleting temporary files, browser cache etc. will not change the fact that you will be filling up one drive.

Is there any data/documents that you can move from drive C: to D: (or vice versa) to make space?

It should give you the option to choose.

At risk of stating the bleedin obvious but the easiest solution is to install another hard drive. You may be able to squeeze the mapping on but you'll only run out of space again (soon).

My PC is as old as the hills as they say but I'm quite attached to it.
It's circa. a 1999 Compaq Presario using Windows 98.
I'd rather not spend money on it as I rarely use it - maybe I'll just use the works' one if I can't sort it.
So, can you install the Quest CD on multiple PC's?

yes, you can put mapsource on more than one pc.

New PCs are are cheap as chips these days. Dig a thousand Euro out of your wallet and go and buy the dog's bollox!

You're into religion now, but actually, you can get quite a lot for 600 Euro, for a grand you can get pretty much all you need.

I regularly build systems for myself for around 400 quid (Pentium 4, 3.2 Ghz, 1Gb Ram, 100Gb HD, etc) but if you don't want to build one yourself you can usually pick up similar specs for around 500-600 quid.

For 1000 Euro I would expect/want:

Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz or Athlon equivalent
At least 1Gb of RAM
100+ Gb Hard drive
DVD burner
Decent video card with at least 128Mb on board memory, pref 256
USB 2 capability
Built in networking
Windows XP etc etc

Dell are always a good start, their Kit is OK and their prices are usually pretty competitive.

Otherwise you need the Italian equivalent of eBuyer or Dabs
