G'Day.

So I've already had a new clutch within 600 miles, so ego is tarnished. Then I thought I'd try something really simple like correcting the clock ('06 1200ABS/servo/heate grips/clear lenses/cost the earth) but the single black button/nipple on the dash just resets the trip. Now I've got that natty 'Trip' button on the left handlebar that swicthes between trips AND resets the a/b trips correctly if I hold down that button for a few seconds (as it should).

So before I walk back into the dealers again can anyone tell me if;

a) I'v mis-read the handbook and you don't infact hold down that single dash button/nipple with your finger but infact do it with someone elses while throwing salt over your left shoulder to reset the clock?

b) this is a problem anyone else has seen or knows about? Can't find anything searching.

I only want to tell the time so I know when to be back for tea.

Yes you use the black button to reset the minutes and hours on the clock. IIRC a simple procedure::press it until the minutes flash then press it to advance one minute per press; hold until the hours flash and repeat the minures method to set the hours; when time to your satisfaction hold until display is steady. Your dealer can change the display to 24hrs if you so desire.

Why would you want to walk to the dealers?

But that's the problem .. holding down the single button on the dash resets the trips and will not, no matter how hard or for how long, starting flashing the hour or minutes to change them. So I know its a problem, just curious if others had it and what fixed it.

Why walk? Don't want the clutch to fail again ...

If your bike is the latest version with the INFO button instead of the TRIP button then clock is set by continous press of the INFO button.

Sorry, first time posting, so sorry if I do something wrong.

I set my GS clock the other day. Make sure you're in Odometer mode. ie total vehicle mileage and not on either of the two trips. (otherwise you'll just reset them and not get into clock adjust mode) Then hold down the trip button until the hour flashes. Release the button and press briefely to increment an hour at a time. Then hold down the Trip button again until the minutes flash. press the trip button repeatedly but briefly to set minutes. Then press and hold the Trip to go back to normal mode and finish the process.
Hope this helps.

Ahhh .. thank-you Simart. I will try that .. I've only done it to-date with either the A/B trip showing which resets to zero as you say. I'll try tonight and let you know. Funny how the little things bug you isn't it.

BTW, a perfect post :D

how does he do that then?, I cant stand the 12hr clock, much prefer 24 hr

He uses the diagnostic machine. I think it's called the GT1 but it's the unit used to read fault codes and update software etc. Had the clock changed on both the 1200s that I've had.
Like you I much prefer the 24hr clock - must be the extensive European travel I enjoying on the GSA1200 :D :D :D

Thanks Eunuch, I'm sure you'll have no problems. I picked my 1200GS up two weeks ago. (first BMW bike) Strange thing was the clock was 1 hr behind UK time? Which is very odd, as you know they are made Germany and Germany is 1hr ahead? Plus you'd assume at the PDI they'd set the clock!! hey ho.

Looking forward to reading more of the posts on here.
I've learnt a so much on here about the bikes' already.

Cheers,
Si
ps. I've got one of the really fast black ones... ;)

Lucky Bast!

Black wasn't available when I got mine 2 mths back. I picked one in the shop and said 'that one'. If Black was available I would have ordered/waited. My VFR VTEC was black and though a bugger to clean looked great (IMHO).

Don't be shy - post some piccies then.

pics??

Did try to post some pics, but they are too big and I don't seem to have the software to reduce the resolution, will keep trying. If I get there. I will put them up.
Thanks for the kind words about the bike, and glag your clocks sorted.

Ok, managed to reduce the res. I've seen some pics on this site of a black one with black side panels, so here's some of my bike with the grey.
Hope you enjoy them and don't mind me posting them under your thread.
