I see ads on here for some really good kit in excellent condition - okay not always excellent.

They contain lots of good info on material, age, treated/non treated and loads have pretty pics.

But the killer for me is when I look and read sizes they’re in EU measurements. Here’s the thing about being old fashioned: wtf do they all mean??

I, like many I reckon, still do inches for measuring my clothes fittings but, genuine question, am I the only one. Often I’ve heard the question asked of sellers about sizes in inches, who then rather arrogantly reply, “Google it” or “check the web site!” FU mate.

That’s my calling to turn away from buying or enquiring more.

So, am I old fashioned??

Nah, don’t agree. I’m on fora like this for ease of reference and quick info grab.

Not old fashioned, practical. There is a direct comparison between inches and EU until you get into things like the BMW size chart that has long and short fittings that really has no obvious connection to ‘inches’. Then there is the complete minefield of L, XL, XXL etc that is a complete lottery as one manufacturers XL is another’s 3XL etc.

I buy size 46 trousers (German). That equates to a 30 inch waist. 30 inches in cm is 76.
Sometimes a 48 is supposed to be a 30 inch and sometimes a 46 is 28 inch.
Its a minefield :D
French sizes seem to be "partout le magasin"

Man after my own heart!

30”!!!!! I’ve not been that for 40 years and even then!!

I had kinda worked out that I take 10 of the EU size to get a traditional size in inches. But that system broke and now I don’t know.

48” chest 38” waist with 33” inside leg. Not too difficult. And not being a lazy SOAB I measured myself.

An XXXL garment made in Vietnam is about a XS in the UK 👍

Made in Thailand plays another sizing game altogether. 🫪

I’m 5’8 on a good day 36 waist and short arse 30’ inseam, Rukka size 50 trews fit spot on.
I have a size 50 Kalix jacket and that can be a bit tight at this time of the year with a bit of layering underneath, a 52 would be a better bet.

With Jaca on this one.

Same with some vehicle sales on here.

There have been times where a really good advert with great details and all the information have grabbed my attention right away, even sometimes on bikes I thought I was not interested in, but then had me seriously considering as a result.

Flip side is I’ve walked away from buying purely based on a sloppy or lazy add on the basis that if they can’t be bothered to put much effort into something as easy as an advert, what shortcuts and lack of care have they taken during the ownership of the actual bike.

Same with cars at the side of the road, if you can’t be arsed to put a price on the piece of paper I’m fucked if I’m going to make the phone call just to find out you’re a chancer wanting way over book price!

The most helpful clothing adds are when someone states their own measurements. Like 6 foot tall 36 waste and 14 stone. Thats real. JJH

Good example, so I’ll give him a bump via the link 😀

Agreed - so the size 106 Rallye 3 jacket and 106 trousers on sale, fit my 6’3” height, 42” chest, 34” waist and 34” inside leg absolutely bang on 😂😂

How about BMW Motorrad gloves - sized 6 through 12.

WTF does that mean in the real world???
The same as S M L XL between manufacturers which means feck all as well...
Best thing is for the OP to ask for measurements as if we're realistic non of the manufacturers are cross compatible size wise...

Yes!! lol
To be honest, sizes are mental now. There seems to be no consistency.
Just go to the shop, try on and ask wife if looks okay………and buy!
Believe me, it’s much cheaper than a wardrobe of “nearly fits”!! 🤣

Interesting post, like yourself age does matter, and like mentioned here it's a minefield, when it comes to sizes.

My best advice to you is if you see upon a jacket or trouser that you particular fancy purchasing, pop along to your nearest good stockist in biker gear and try on that size that is mentioned, sometimes finding that same item, although you may be a 38" inch trouser size at home, when trying on biker trousers you may need a 40" or even a 42" to feel comfortable in.

Fitment and fitting them is the secret, forget what size they are in a catalogue or advert, unless you try them on its a pig in a poke.

Unless you can be bothered with sending purchased goods back to the seller, don't bother with them, just go to nearest bike store and keep them flourishing with your money. :D

Any seller, that is eager for a sale will be happy to measure garment for you before you decide to purchase them or not. If for whatever reason they cannot be bothered, move on!

Remember the "Droopy ass" look is not a great look in any world of fashion, second opinions count even in a bikers world. 🤔
