Clunky gearbox between 1st & 2nd

Picked up a GS with 700miles on the clock. Getting into 1st and shifting to 2nd seems very clunky as if the clutch isn't lifting. Anything I can check for?
Was this an ex demo bike or do you think it could possibly be one that had a problem for the first owner so was replaced by BMW??

ericbusa on youtube, is he the best motorcycle tester in the world?
He is the only one i have seen mentioning a gear change issue?
I have read and watched dozens of professionals testing the bike and non have raised this issue.
I wonder why this is?

Here's Eric...

Is pidcock your local then PDiddy?

Rather than get into the details of who the dealer is, I can say that they have been brilliant at every point over the last few months while trying to fix the gearbox issue.

The engineer called roger Bennett who restores mends makes bits for BMWs he rides a old combo outfit and has nearly all his life
Told me don't use the clutch after first you will notice smoother gear change
I tried it he was right smooth as silk no clunking
Well that's on my 1150
Give it a try nothing lost :beerjug:

Yamaha Diversion 900 and LC boxer have a wet clutch with shaft drive.

My Divvie 900 up-shifted really smoothly without clutch. But generally crashed when I tried with clutch. Downshifting needed a throttle/clutch miss match to blip the revs & tap it down a cog with zero delay - blip, click.

Holding throttle shut and blipping open for a millisecond would let it shift down without clutch. But this was slower than blipping revs.

Stop in a high gear and it would hang up and crash as I tried to find first gear.

My 1200 GSA has developed similar traits but needs the clutch bleeding or maybe a new slave cylinder.

The issue may be a feature of the wet clutch demanding better rev matching than a dry clutch.

IME all bikes will clunk the gears if the revs are not matched properly. Some are more fussy than others and shafts seem to be worse than chain drives.

You do talk some bollox

Based on experience, I said MAYBE its a clutch feature. Its a QUESTION FFS. Rather than being talking bollox yourself why not deliver the facts to prove the question one way or another.

Unlikely given the significant improvement of the gearbox of the demo bike I rode over that of my bike -

I recall your bike was one of the early bikes, hopefully as with your new one and several others and myself the problems will/have been resolved !

I no you like to use your bike as much as poss, what miles had it done !

looks like issue has been resolved to some extent. Appears that the oil level was way too high. I carefully drained out .05L out and change is much better, although not perfect. Oil level now perfect.

It does seem to help a little but in my case only when the bike is cold.
