At least it's fairly obvious what's gone wrong then
Still... it doesn't help you get anywhere to buy a new one!
Didn`t realise the 1150 had hydraulic clutch. Give me the simplicity of a cable any day, therefore it is still the best. Phew!

A spare clutch cable and operating arm doesn't take up much space
Only if you plan for it. With that said... my bikes have only ever been stuck in my garage!

A good tip is to tape a replacement cable along the length of the one in place and seal the ends with plastic bag or clingfilm.
If a cable ever breaks the spare is already there, correctly routed and takes up no extra space.

This may sound like a very daft question, but do I back the 10mm adjuster off, or screw it in?
You need a few mm's of play at the arm.
So adjust the whatever way to suit if you need less or more.
