Hello,
First post here, thanks for taking the time of reading.
I have a 2009 Xcountry, and i am trying to troubleshoot a loss of power when hot.
I commute on the bike, and in the hot summer, after being stuck in traffic for a while, the bike always starts acting up. No power, delay in acceleration.
I now suspect a dragging clutch, which is kind of early since I have only 10,000 miles on the bike.

Now, since last week, i have a metallic humming noise on acceleration that started last time i had the loss of power symptoms. Noise disappear when i pull the clutch lever. Difficult to say where it comes from while riding.
I guess my question is, would it be possible the noise would come from the clutch?
The oil I have been using is Castrol 4T 10w40 (http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9484300/)
Let me know what you think, thanks a million!

If your clutch is slipping you will get a rise in engine revs, but no immediate increase in speed. is this what is happening?

What is your chain tension like? could this be your humming problem?
If the chain is fine, how about dropping it off the bike, and rotating the gearbox sprocket by hand, with the bike in neutral?

Any roughness may indicate a bearing on the way out, which could be your humming issue.

I'd also check the sprocket carrier bearings in the rear wheel as well.

Yes, rise in rev but slow rise in speed. Chain tension OK.
Already ordered new plates, because i was suspecting it needed replacement. But now the noise makes me think twice.
Are you saying there's no way the noise would come from the clutch? When i ride, it kinds of feel like it's coming from the front, a little bit like if a bunch of keys would be vibrating...
Also, if it was the bearing, wouldn't the noise stay constant clutch in or out?
