Tossers, I decided to take the starter motor off as suggested by several members. On inspection it appears Bone dry inside, if it,s contaminated what should I look for & where next.

Slave cylinder stange suctance inside

Tossers, I've managed to get the slave off, its full of dry like sand substance smells burnt, any ideas what going on, im trying to see if I can solve this slipping clutch, im hoping its not the clutch it self. Pictures included

That's what my slave cylinder looked like after it had been leaking fluid along the shaft into the clutch.

clutch rod

Here is the rod, there is a wet felt thing on it, ive pulled the slave apart doesn't appear worn inside, the bearing is moving, DOES this look likely to be the culprit then.

Sorry KMD just seen you replaced the lot on my previous Thread, I’ve read some people change the slave only and if caught early enough the contamination is worn away, has anyone experienced this?

How many different threads do I have to read before I know what your problem is, what you’ve done, what you’ve replaced and what other remedies have been suggested and tried ?

Hi Luke, in my case fluid had travelled along the rod from the leaking slave cylinder and been distributed around the flywheel and clutch driven plate by centrifugal force. There was no way of assessing how much had got in there without removing the clutch to inspect.

Mine had started to slip halfway through a trip whilst in Germany and I had to abandon the job and nurse it home. Clearly I didn’t want that happening again so rather than do half a job and hope for the best, it seemed prudent to me to just replace the lot.

It may be that a good clean with brake cleaner would have stopped the clutch slipping, but it was a fair job getting to the point where you can inspect the plates, so rather than risk having to strip it all again, I just cleaned the flywheel and replaced everything else. Your photos show the same as I found on my slave cylinder, so all I can say is I know what I would do in your position.
