Hi Luke, in my case fluid had travelled along the rod from the leaking slave cylinder and been distributed around the flywheel and clutch driven plate by centrifugal force. There was no way of assessing how much had got in there without removing the clutch to inspect.
Mine had started to slip halfway through a trip whilst in Germany and I had to abandon the job and nurse it home. Clearly I didn’t want that happening again so rather than do half a job and hope for the best, it seemed prudent to me to just replace the lot.
It may be that a good clean with brake cleaner would have stopped the clutch slipping, but it was a fair job getting to the point where you can inspect the plates, so rather than risk having to strip it all again, I just cleaned the flywheel and replaced everything else. Your photos show the same as I found on my slave cylinder, so all I can say is I know what I would do in your position.
